- J. A. CORMIER DOOR SECURER Filed Aug. 14. 1922 swam Patented June 24, 1924.
JOSEPH A. CORIVIIER, F LOWELL, MASSACHUSETTS.
DOOR SEGURER.
Application filed-August 14, 1922. Serial No. 581,714.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J osnrn A. CORlVIIE-R, a citizen of the United States, resident of Lowell, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have made a certain new and useful Invention in Door Securers; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others, skilled in the art towhich it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 1s a top plan View of the invention as applied.
Figure 2 is a perspective View of the in vention.
Figure 3 is a similar view of the invention in folded position.
Figure 4 is a plan view of the same.
Figure 5 is a plan view of the invention partially folded.
The invention has relation to door secur ers, having for an object to provide an proved device of this description, well adapted to be carried in the pocket, and of strong durable nature.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts, as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating the invention, the numeral 1 designates the door casing, and 2 is the free edge of the door, the securer 3 fitting in the interval between door and casing.
The door securer is composed of a body member 3, fitting in said interval and hav ing at its free end pointed lugs 4, 4, adapted to be pressed into engagement with the wood of the door casing, the complementary member 5 when in service extending at right angles to the body member and parallel with the inner face of the door, said complementary member being hinged to the body mem ber at 6 and having at its free end an out" turned lug 7. The two members 3 and 5 are ordinarily freely movable relatively to each other upon their hinge connection, and the first named or body member is provided with an extension 8 of its hinged end projecting past the hinge, and provided at its outer end with a brace 9 hinged thereto at 10, and adapted to be moved to a position strut-wise inclined relatively to the member 5 and with its free end engaged behind the terminal hook or lug 7 of said member to:
therely fix the right angle relation of the members 3 and 5 ofthe device. I
In the use of the device, the strut brace will positively prevent any movement of the members 3' and 5relative to each other,
and will also positively prevent any opening,
of the door excepting such opening as would tear the device from its seat in the door casing where the lugs 4, 4, engage the wood thereof. 7
The strut brace is readily engaged and disengaged with the complementary member of the device, and the parts are adapted to assume the position shown in Figure 4 wherein they are substantially fiat, with the center prong or lug 7 of the complementary member fitting in the interval between the two pointed lugs 4, 4, of the body member,
the last named lugs projecting in a direction opposite to that of the first named lug, and i the stop engagement of the member5 at the point 11 with the brace 9 serving to prevent any further folding of the device, the result being that the pointed lugs are prevented from becoming pressed into engagement with the lining of the pocket of a, garment wherein the device may be carried;
In other words the points of the lugs 4, 4, are approximately in the plane of the member 5 of the device, and the point of the lug 7 is approximately in the plane of the body member 3 of the device in the compact folded position of the door securer, the points of the lugs 4, 4, being located adjacent to the inclined edges 12 of the complementary member, and all of the pointed lugs being well guarded.
The complementary member 5 is provided with a center opening 13 of its hinged end portion, which admits of the folding of the device from the active position shown in Figure 1 to collapsed approximately fiat form shown in Figure 4, the center extension 8 of the member 3 passing through points 14 when the two members assume the right angle relation of Figure 5 that will prevent any further unfolding of the two members past this right angle position.
1 claim lfn a door 'securer, a body member having at one end thereof two point projections spaced apart and adapted to engage a door casing, a complementary member hinged at one end thereof to the body member and having a point projection located centrally of said point projections of the body memher and a central opening adjacent the hinged end thereof, said body member having a reduced end extension adapted .to pass through :said'opening in the folding of the device upon its hinges, and a brace member hinged to the other end of the body member, adapted to pass through said open ing in the folding of the device and normally having engagement With the point projection or" the complementary member, the members being foldable into approximately parallel relation With said point projections 20 JOSEPH A.
