Description

"June 24-, 1924 J. J. REINHOLD TALKING MACHINE RECORD CASE Filed Aug. 2, 1920 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 fat; 5 F12 IFJ'qS T12; h
I amen W01 JOAN" d. Fem/1on1.
June 24 1924.
2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Filed A112. 2 1920 JOHN J'. REINHOLD, OF MARIETTA, PENNSYLVANIA TALKING-MACHINE-RECOBD CASE.
Application filed August 2, 1920. Serial No. 400,685.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoHN J. REINHOLD, a citizen of the United States, residing at. Marietta. in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Talking-Machine-Record Cases, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a case or receptacle for holding talking machine records of the single or double disk type, and the object of the invention is to provide not only a case which shall fully protect the record at all times, but which shall contain on one side illustrations of the subject of the record, and on the other verses or other matter belonging to said record.
While I am fully aware that containers have been made in the form of books, and cards to which small records are attached these are not satisfactory, as in the case of the books, the containers or envelopes are square while a record is round which allows the corners to bend over; and in the case of the cards the records have to be very small as the size of the card is limited by the size of the turn table of the phonograph.
Both faces of the case can contain illust-rations when a double record is to be placed in said case, or two single records can be placed in said case by having the space between front and back of suflicient width to accommodate them, and when two records are placed in one case, both sides of said case can contain illustrations indicative of the selections placed upon the faces of the records, or each side can contain illustrations and verses indicative of the record next said side.
The illustrations placed upon the case are to be in a circular or oval form, and surrounded by a border.
The invention is designed more especially for holding the smaller sizes of records of standard type which are in general use, and the selections to be placed upon the records as well as the illustrations and verses are to be of such a character as to appeal to children, although the sameare not to be confined to the same.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain construction and combination of parts as will be fully illustrated and described and it is fully un derstood that slight changes in the construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front view of my case.
Figure 2 is an edge view ofthe same.
Figures 3, 4E, 5 6, 7, 8, 9, 10,11 and 12 show modified forms of the invention.
Referring to the drawings in which like figures of reference refer to corresponding parts in all of the views, the record case or receptacle comprises a front 1, and a back 2, of suitable material such as heavy cardboard shaped either in a circularor ova-l form The front 1, and. back 2, are joined together along a portion of their edges by a filler or spacer 3, as shown in Figures 1 and 2; said filler being slightly thicker than a record to space the sides apart to hold the record; said spacer being wide at the lower portion and tapering towards the ends which extend to about the center line of the case leaving an opening 4, for the reception of the record. I
In the form shown in Figures 1 and 2,
the spacer 3, being made wide at the bottom as shown by 5, will raise up the record so use of a filler 3, but have employed a binding tape or band 7, for holding the sides 1, and 2, to said filler.
In the modification shown in Figures 5 and 6, I have shown the sides 8 and 9, of a molded form which will provide a spacelO, for the record, and is shown cut away to receive thesame; and in this form said sides can be joined in any desirable way.
In Figures 3, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 11, I have shown a cut out portion to allow the record to be grasped by the fingers, but this is not necessary if the case is made of such form as to bring the record even with the top of the opening.
Referring to Figure 7, I have shown the case oval in form, and with the filler'3, as shown, and in Figures 8 and 9, I have shown circular forms with binding tapes; but these may be oval in form if desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by for a record, and joined together along a 10 Letters Patent; is: portion of their edges to-receiveand retain 1. A case for talking machine records the record. comprising a front and back circular in In testimony whereof I afiix my signature form and joined together for a portion of in presence of two Witnesses. their edges or border. 1 JOHN J. REINHOLD.
2. A case for talking machine records, Witnesses; comprislng a front and. a back, properly T. JOHNSONKRODEL, spaced from each other to form a receptacle CLEON Na BERNTHEIZEL.
