Be it known that I, WALTER G. BoT'roM- LEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Label Scrapers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to scrapers and more particularly to a device adapted to be used by druggists or others for scraping labels from used bottles.

Theobject of the invention is to pro vide a simple and cheap device of the above character which can be easily applied to a spigot, which when so applied can be firmly held in position and may be conveniently used to quickly and efficiently scrape the label from the bottle after wetting it by the water issuing from the spigot.

This object, and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter, I attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which 7/ Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved label scraper,

The improved label scraper is shown made up of a blank 6 of sheet metal, such as brass. The blanks are stamped out from a section to include an elongated strip 7 in which apertures 8 are provided near theends. A reduced portion or neck 9 is pro vided centrally at the bottom edge of strip 7, from which an enlargement 10 extends.

Enlargement 10 is provided with oppositely sloping sides 11. A rectangular blade 12 is formed at the bottom of enlargement 10 and is provided with a beveled cutting edge 13 at the lower end of the blank.

In practice, strip 7 is bent into circular or other outline, as shown more particularly in Figure 1, and the ends thereof are bent along the dotted lines 1 1 to bring the spaced apertured ears formed at the ends of the strip, together. Enlargement 10 is then bent on the horizontal dotted line 15 at the base of neck 9 to extend forwardly at an obtuse angle, after which the plate 10 is bent along the horizontal dotted line 16 at the base of enlargement 10 forming a uncture line between the base and blade,

to direct the blade upwardly at an obtuse angle to enlargement 10.

The device thus formed may be applied to the upright or standard, neck or spout of a spigot as shown by way of illustration in Figure 5 of the drawings, in which instance a bolt or other fastening 17 is disposed through the apertures of the clip produced by strip 7 when bent as described. By this construction, means is provided to detachably secure the scraper to a spigot or other support for removing wet labels from bottles or other receptacles. If applied to the spout, it may be plain or provided with a shoulder as shown, to permit the enlargement to rest thereon and sustain the stresses placed upon the blade when the device is in use. If the device is applied to the neck or upright, the bent portion between the enlargement l0 and blade 12 or the enlargement itself, will rest upon the top of the spout.

In using the device, the operator will wet the label on the bottle. by the water issuing from the spigot and will scrape it over the cutting edge 13 of blade 12, thereby removing the old label from the bottle. It has been found in practice, that scraping of labels from bottles may be more quickly effectgd than with methods heretofore practice While I have described my invention as taking a particular form, it will be understood that the various parts of my invention may be changed without departing from the spirit thereof, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise construction set forth, but consider that I am at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A label scraper, adapted to be attached to a spigot or other support, consisting of a blade horizontally disposed with its knife edge extending outwardly from the spigot and its ends extending at opposite sides of the spigot.

2. A label scraper, adapted to be attached to a spigot or other support, consisting of a blade disposed horizontally, and a part integral with the center of the blade for attachment to the spigot.
