E. NOVITZKY FRAME FASTENING MEANS Filed Nov. 13, 1922 Patented June 3, 1824.
" D S ATE S EMIL NOVITZKY, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
FRAME-FASTENING MEANS.
Application filed November 13, 1922. Serial No. 600,620.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Earn, NOVITZKY, a citizen of Hungary, residing at Detroit, in the county of lVayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Frame-Fastening Means, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to frame fasteners for beds or other articles, the present inven: tion being an improvement on one disclosed in a previous application filed April 19, 1922, Serial No. 538,891. I
The invention has for a general object to provide a simple and inexpensive means for detachably securing together the loi'igitudinal and transverse frame members of wooden beds, or other angularly abutting structure members together; a further specific object being to provide a simple means for interlocking said members against relative vertical displacement.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawings is a perspective View of the two joining members showing them slightly separated.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the device assembled.
Referring now to Fig. 1 of the drawings my improved frame joining means as there shown comprises a pair of similar plates 10 and 11 which are each provided with a plurality of holes 12 adapted to receive screws 13 whereby they are secured respectively to the longitudinal and transverse frame pieces, 14 and 15 respectively of a bed, or to such other parts as it may be desired to apply the invention.
Each of these plates has a pair of vertically spaced lugs projecting from one edge thereof at right angles thereto, the lugs on the plate 10 being numbered 17 and those on the plate 11 being numbered 18. The respective lugs on the two plates are adapted to interlock with each other, and to this end the lugs 17 have slots 19 extending upward from their lower edges for one-half their height, while the lugs 18 have slots 20 extendingdownward from their top edges for one-half their height the width of these slots eorresponding to the thickness of the lugs,
the slots being located at the meeting lines I of the lugs with the plates. The parts are assembled by bringing the slots of the respective lugs into vertical alinement, with the lugs 18 under the lugs 17, and then mov-,
ing the plates vertically toward one another 1 until the upper and lower parts respectiveof the lugs 17 and 18 are engaged in the respective slots 19 and 20, in which position the respective lugs, and also the plates, are
horizontally juxtaposed, while the two plates 1 These tongues are also preferably arranged a to engage the lugs in a manner to lock the two plates against relative vertical displacement. To this end the tips of the tongues curved inwardly toward the plates without however quite reaching the faces of the latter. Formed in the lugs 17, 18 are openings 26, 27 which receive said tips when the parts are assembled, the faces of the lugs which register with the tongues presenting beveled portions 28, 29 leading from their edges to said openings, the tongues riding over these beveled surfaces when the parts are being assembled.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows:
1. A device of the class described comprising a pair of plates each having angular lugs on one edge thereof, the lugs on one of the plates being slotted from the bottom upwardly, and the lugs on the other plate being slotted from the top downwardly, tongues struck out from each plate and adapted to engage over the lugs on the other plate, and means whereby said tongues engage said lugs to prevent relative vertical movement of said plates in both directions.
2. A device of the class described compris lugs on one edge thereof, the lugs on one of the plates being slotted from the bottom upwardly, and the lugs on the other plate being slotted from the top downwardly, tongues struck out from each plate and adapted to engage over the lugs on the other plate, and means for locking said plates. one to, the other against relative vertieal movement, said lugs presenting openings therein adapted to be engaged by the tips of said tongues to prevent relative vertical displacement of the plates in both directions.
3. A device of the class described compris ing a pair of plates each having angular lugs on one edge thereof, the lugs on. one of the plates slotted 'from the bottom upwardly, and the lugs on the otherv plate, being slotted "from the top downwardly, tongues strupkout from eachplate and adapted to engage over thelugs on the other plate, and means for locking said plates one to the other against relative vertical movement, said lugs presenting openings therein adapted to be engaged by the tipsof said tongues to'prevent relative vertical displacement of the plates, the said lugs presenting vertically prising a pair of plates each having angular lugs on 'one edge thereof, the lugs on one of the plates being slotted from the bottom upwardly, and the lugs on the other plates being slotted from the top downwardly, tongues struck out from each plate and adapted to engage over the lugs on the other plate, and means for locking sai'dplates one to the other against relative vertical movement. said lugs presenting openings therein adapted to be engaged by the tips of said tongues to prevent relative verticaldisplacement of the plates, the said lugs presenting vertically beveled portions leading-from their edges to said opening, said tongues, having their tips curved inwardly toward the plate and adapted to ride over said beveled portions when the parts are being assembled.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
EMIL NOVITZKY.
