CHARLES SINGER, 0F NEW YORK, NEW YORK.
NECKTIE.
.Application filed June 13, 1923. Serial No. $55,062.
In the manufacture of neckties as is com-'- monly constructed at the present time the fl'OOtlH are cut to a predeterminedshape and folded to-the form of the necktie. the edges at the reverse side of the tie being suitably stitched to connect the parts and any intermediate lining or binder member that may be employed to form the bodyof the tie.
This obviously requires a folding and consequently a crushingof the material to a greater or lesser extent and involves the employment of labor skilled in themanufacture of making ties. \Vith many materials the folding of the same is not ob- 'jcctionablc as it does not crush or damage the same to an appreciable extent. With other materials. however, the folding of the same to form the necktie crushes the material to an extent which is decidedly detrimental and in either event the skilledlabor necessary in the manufacture of the present form of necktics niakes the cost of the same necessarily higher than it otherwise would be. Now the object of my invention is the provision of a necktie constructed in such a manner that the material is not folded or creased nor need it be bent in any manner in the manufacture of the tie. This is :u'complished by cutting the material to the precise form in which the tie is to be made providing a lining and also a back or reverse member which are similarly cut and the parts superimposed and connected along their edges by a suitable stitch which'forms a binding therefor, as will be hereinafter more particularly described.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view illustrating a necktie made in accordance with my present invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan and partial section illustrating the form of stitcning employed to connect the members of the tie ang to form an edge or binder for the same, an
Fig. 3 is a transverse section.
stitching at the edges thereof.
Referring to the drawingthe tie made in accordance withmy invention 1ncludes an obverse member 10 which may be made of any suitable material and cut into any desired shape. The tie also includes a reverse member 11 and a lining or body member 12, both of which are cut to the same shape as the obverse member of the tie. It will be understood that the reverse member may be such as to only form a back or lining, or
may be made of a suitable material different from the obverse member so that the tie may be made reversible, and the body member 12 may be made of flannel or any other similar material in order to give the tie the desired weight and body. These members of the tie as thus formed are superimposed and the oppositely disposed edges 13 and 14:
thereof are connected by suitable stitching,
preferably that known as an overlook stitch,
as indicated at 15 in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing-which not only connects the edges of the material to complete the tie, but also forms an edging giving the tie a more or less ornamental and novel appearance.
In thus constructing the necktie, as will now be understood. it is unnecessary to fold or crush the material in any manner whatsoever, and there is effected not only a substantial saving in the amount of material necessarily employed. but also in th labor costs of manufacturing the ties as the same may be made just as well by unskilled as skilled labor.
- I claim as my invention:
1. A necktie comprising a face member, a back member, and a lining intermediate of the said face and back members, the said face member, back member and lining being cut to the same size and configuration and connected together by suitable lines j'of 2. A necktie comprising a face member, a back member. a lining member intermediate of the said face and back members, the said face member, back member and lining all being cut to the same shape and configuration and superimposed upon one another, anda series of overlook stitches conmeeting the edges of all the said members and forming a binding therefor.
Signed by me this-22nd da of Ma 1923'.
