To all td'h'omt may vmm Be it known that I, ALFRED MENDEL, of German nationality, residing at 111 Landsbergerstrasse, Berlin, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in and Relatin to Buttons; an I do hereby declare the ollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a button comprising a hood and a detachable bottom and consists therein that the hood or the bottom carries slides which with one end engage the oppositely situated button part, so that there y a locking of both button parts is effected. The slides may be of any desired shape. The described and illustrated mode of carrying out the invention shews slides carrying shanks on their other ends which are shaped in such a manner that in their locked position they form eyes by means of which they are fastened to garments and the like. A construction of the button according to the invention is particularly valuable for buttons having a cloth cover, as in this manner without the use of any special (manner) means everybody is able to give the buttons any desired cloth cover and to exchange the latter in a simple manner. To achieve this it is only necessary that the button parts comprise a hood and bottom.
Upon the accompanying drawing one mode of carrying out the invention is shewn and it is:
Fig. 1, a section through a finished button,
Fig. 2, the view of the button with drawn back slides,
Fig. 3, the bottom view of the bottom with drawn out slidesand Fig. 4, on an enlarged scale a perspective view of the slide whose shanks are formed into eyes for attachment.
In the mode of construction the bottom 6 consists of the plates 6 6 which in a known manner are connected with each other by means of rivets or otherwise and of which 12 is provided with a slot for the slide shanks d to pass through. The slides e e carrying the shanks (P, d are guided between the plates 6 b of the bottom 6.
For inserting the bottom 2) into the hood a, over which the cloth cover 0 has previously been placed, the shanks d (Z are drawn apart, see Figure 2. Hereby the slides 6 e are brought into the withdrawn position so that the bottom 7) can be inserted into the hood a without difiiculty. The shanks al (P are then drawn towards each other in order to be able to fasten both button parts together, see Figs. 1 and 8. In this manner the slides 6 e are pushed behind the turned up rim of the hood a and thus form a rigid connection between same and the bottom 6 while at the same time the shanks 6Z1, (Z drawn against each other form an attachment eye which is suitable for practical use. The unlocking of both button parts is if required eifeoted in the same simple manner by moving the shanks (Z (Z apart, whereupon the bottom can be removed from the hood without difficulty.
The construction of the various parts can be changed at will without thereby departing from the nature of this invention. It would thus for instance be possible to construct the bottom I) in a simpler manner. The plate 5 serving as a guide for the slides 6 a, could for instance be omitted if provision were made for another kind of guidance for the parts 6 e for instance by employing guide holes. Likewise would it be possible to make the eyes 'cl d of different sizes so that one will cover the other after they have been pushed together. It would further be possible to effect a locking of the slides in their end positions by means of projections, notches and the like. Apart therefrom the locking device for the hood and bottom instead of being actuated by the fastening eye could be worked independently therefrom in any other desired manner although this will as a rule prove to be less suitable. But also when employing the fastening eye as an actuating element for the locking device would it be possible to make it in one and to hold one part of the locking device firmly in the drawn out condition so that only the other part is engaged or disengaged by moving the fastening eye.
I claim as my invention:
1. A button comprising a hood, a bottom detachable from the hood and means to lock the bottom and hood together, said locking means also forming means to enable the button to be secured to a garment.
2. A button comprising a hood having an inturned rim, a bottom detachably arranged in the hood and provided with an opening, and locking'slides-mounted in the bottom for movement into and out of engagement with the rim of the hood to lock the bottom therein or release the bottom therefrom, the said slides having eyes arranged in and projecting outwardly from said opening, the said eyes forming means to enable the said slides to be manually operated and also forming means to enable the button to be secured to a garment.
3. A button comprising a hood, a bottom 10 detachably mounted in the hood and having an opening, slides, each having a pair of parallel members mounted for movement in said bottom, and into and out of engagement With the hood, each slide also comprising an 'eye arranged in and projecting outwardly from the bottom and connecting the said parallel members, the parallel members of one slide being arranged between the parallel members of the other slide.
ALFRED MENDEL.
