Description

N. L. DALRYMPLE May 13, 1924., 1,494.154 w VANITY CASE Filed Aug. 31 1923 Patented May 13?, 1924.

or nAnvr'LLE, VIRGINIA.
VANITY case.-
' Application filed August 31,,1923. Serial No. 660,452.
. Toall whom it may concern Be it known that I, NORMAN L. Dannrm PLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Danville, in the county of Pittsylvama' and State of Virginia, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Vanity Cases, of which the following is a speclfication. p p
My invention has for its object to provide a certain new and useful vanitycase of an ornamental appearance, compact structure, and one in which the parts are so designed and correlated as to afi'ord the greatest fa? cility of. manipulation in using the same.
In its more subordinate nature the invention has for its object to provide the vanity case embodying in its structure a card holder,
a coin carrier, and a powder compact and puff with a mirror cooperating with the same, so arranged and designed that the parts composing the case may be opened and handled in a convenient manner and in which the parts are so constructed as to be of an ornamental appearance as well as posseSslng utility.
In its general'nature the invention com-.
prises a case composed of two half sections hinged together along one edge, one of the half sections functioning as a coin carrier and .a powder compact, pufi' and mirror carrier while the other section functions as a card carrier and as a cover for the coin holders of the first section; the section carrying the coin holders and powder cup being provided with a' hinge cover that carries the mirror and serves as a closure for the powidercup, the cover being hinged to that section, preferably, at the end of the case opposite the hinge. sections.
In its more detailed nature the invention includesthose novel details of construction, combination and arrangement of. parts, all of which will be first fully described, then be specifically pointed out. in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 1s a perspective v1ew of the case joint between the two half looking at it from the powder compact side,
the cover with the mirror being open.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the case, the two half'sections being opened apart and showing the location of the coin holder and the card carrying space.
Figure 3-is a ongitudinal section of the case, the parts being in the closed position.-
Figures 4 and 5 are cross sections on the lines 4-4 and 55 respectively of Figure 3.
In thedrawing in which like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the. figures, it will be observed that'the case is made of two half sections 1 and 2 hingedtogether at 3 and held together by a catch 4.
. The section 2 has a-face plate 5, which i;
apertur'ed'at 6 and 7 to receive .a pair o coin holders 8 and 9, the coin holders being suitably secured totheplate .5 in any suitable way. The outer faceof the section 2 has an opening with a'restflange 10 for the lid 11. The lid is hinged at 12 to the end of the section 2 which is opposite thathavingthe hinge 3 and it' has a suitable catch 13'to' hold it closed. The lid also carries a suitable. mirror 14 asshown.
15is a partition plate which is held in the section at such 'a distance from the. opening as will permit the lid 11, with the mirror" 14, to close down. Set into the opening 16 of the plate 15 is a cup 17 which contains a powder compact l8 and a powder puff 19,
the mirror 14 forming a closure for the cup 17 when the lid is down. 1 The coin'holders' 8 and 9 are set into the openings 6 and 7 fromthe outer side of the plate 5 and -are secured in position in any suitable way. Plungers 21 are provided in the cup and springs 20 are set between the plungers'21 and the partition plate 15 tooperate the plungers and hold the coins in proper'relation with the outlet slot or opening of the coin holders.
The section 1 of the case a spring held clip- 22'for retaining cards in placewhereby the section 1 will constitute a card case as well as serving as a cover over the coin holders. 23 designates rings secured to the end of the case to which a carrying chain (not shown) may be attached.
. From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying 'drawg has its opening facmg'the section 2 and it is provided with ing, it is thought the complete construction,
that they may be used to contain disks of cosmetic wafers and while the compartment containing the clip 22 is primarily intended to receive cards, it may also be used to contain packages of powder papers, or a piece of chamois skin, if desired.
What I claim is:
1. A case of the character described comprising a pair of half sections hinged together at one end, a catch located at the other end for holding said sections together, one of said sections constituting a receptacle and the other having an opening at the outer. face thereof, a lid hinged to said other section for closing said opening, and a pow der cup with said other section and closed by said lid, disk holders carried by said other section with their open ends projecting into the first section when the case is closed.
