NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, ASBIGNOR T0 AUGUST GOERTZ & 00.,
A UOR'PDRATION 0F NEW JERSEY.
Application med August se, 19533. Serial No. 359,097.
To aZZ whom t may concern.
Be it known that I, Fitnnnniei: Goiiirrz, a citizen of the Unitedv States, residin at Newark, in'the county of Essex and tate of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Li -Stick or Compact Containers; and`1 do ereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact' description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accom anying drawings, and to characters of re erence marked thereon,`which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates, generally, to improvements in containers; and, the present invention has reference, more particularly, to a novel and sim le construction of container for use as a ip-stick holder or other com act made in the form of al stick.
T e resent invention has for its principal o jects to provide a lip-stick holder com rising a main tubular casing in which is slidably arranged and is adapted to be removed therefrom a lip-stick holder, the holder being` provided with an enlarged end which serves as a finger-piece for removal of the holder from the main tubular casing` and also as a closure or cap for the open end of theicasing when the holder has been inserted iii the said casing'.
The present invention has for its further object toy provide in connection with the tubular casing and the removable holder above mentioned, a novel and simple means for adjustably securing the lis-stick, or similar compact, within the hol er, so that the end-portion of the said lip-stick, when desired for use, can be yreadily moved forward within the holder, without binding, and can be just as easily returned entirely within its holder after its use.
Other objects of the present invention not at this time more particularly enumerated will be clearly understood from the follow` ing detailed description -of the present invention.
With'the various objects of the present invention in view, the said invention consists, primarily, in the novel lip-stick container or holder hereinafter more fully set forth; and, the said invention consists, furthermore, in the novel arrangements and combinations of the several devices and parte, as well as in the details of the construction of the said parts, all of which will be more fully described in the following specification, and then finally embodied in tie clauses of the claim which are appended to and which form an essential part of the said specication.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a pers p ective view of the complete lip-stick container or holder made according to and embodying the principles of the present invention; and Figure 2 is a perspective view, showing collectively, the main receivin shell or casin and the holder and sli e, with the lip-stick in osition in said holder entirely withdrawn rom said main shell.
Figure 3 is a lon itudinal vertical section of the assemble members of the de-` vice; and Figure 4 is a similar section of the lip-stick holder, its slide for moving the lip-stick, and of the lip-stick movably disposed within the said holder.
Figure 5 is a horizontal section, taken on line 5-5 in said Fi re 4; and Figure 6 is a similar section,1ta en on line 6-6in said Figure 4.
Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the said above described views to indicate'corresponding parts.
Re errin nowfto the said drawings, the reference-c aracter 1 indicates a complete lip-stick container or holder made according having a closed end 3 and an o n ende-4.
Removably disposed within sai main ,tubular casing or shell 2 is a, holder 5, seefFigures 2 and 4:, in which is movably disposed alip-stick, or similar compact, as 6, The
given to the shell 7 for producin said holder 5 .consistsessentially, of a tubular shell 7 one end of which is open, as 'at 8, for the insertion of the lip-stick, or the like, and the otherend-portion 9 of which is closed -by a cap 10, usually formed With an annular bead or'projection, as 11, said cap, as will bel understood from an inspection of Figure 3 of the drawings, serving as a closure for the open end 4 of the main casing or shell 2, and serving also as a iinrpiece for the withdrawal of the holder 5 om said casin or shell 2 `when it is desired to use theglip-stick. 'lvhe said shell 7 upon one side is made with a slot 12 extending longitudinally from a point near themarginal edge 13 of the cap 10 to a point as at 14, near the open end 8 of the said shell 7. Upon its opposite side, the said shell 7 is made with anotherslot 15 which also extends lon itudinally from a point near the margina edge 13 ofthe'cap 10 to the marginal edge 16 of the shellf7, so that thereby sufficient spring-action may be o slight frictional contact or bindin actionietween the inner wall of the shel7 and the lipstick or similar comp-act 6 inserted therein, as will be evident. In order that the lipstick or compact 6 may be' movably and adjustably maintained within the said shell, there is disposed within said shell 7 a suit ably :shaped thimble 17, encompassing the lower endortion 18 of the lip-stick or compact 6. ncirclin the said. shell 7 and slidably arranged t ereon is a slide-ring, as
19, which is made with a pair of inwardly.
projecting lugs, as 20 and 21, extending respectively through the said slots 12 and 15,
Ami
and through correspondingly placed slits 22 and 23 in said thimble 17, and being suitably pressed or forced into the lip-stick material or compact, substantially as .Shown in Figures 4 and 6 of the drawings. Thus, the said slide-ring` 19 serves as a ingerpiece for moving the lip-stick 6 back and forth within the holder-shell 7, as will be clearly understood.
From the foregoing description of the invention and from an inspection of the several figures of the drawings, it will be evident that I have produced a'neat and simply constructed lip-stick container, the various parts of which can be readily manipulated, so as to move the lip-stick in .position for use, and to again return the same within the main tubular casing when not required for further use.
Of course, I am aware that changes may be made in the details of the construction of the device without departing from the scope of the present invention as set forth in the foregoing specification. Hence, Iv do not limit my present invention to the exact arrangements and combinations of the various devices and parts asdescribed in the Meer?? 'said specification, nor do confine myself t0 stick or compact may be movedback andV forth within the said shell.
2. A container for the reception of a lipstick or similar compact, comprising a main tubular casingclosed at one end and open said ring andextending.
at the otherend, a tubular shell removably disposed within said main casing, said shell being provided in its opposite sides with longitudinally extending slots, a slide-ring mounted upon said shell,- and a thimble within said shell, said thimble being provided with slits inl alinement with said slots, and ,engaging lugs extending from said ring into and through the slots in said shell and into the slits in said thimble for engagement. with the lip-stick or compact,
and whereby said lip-stick or compact may .ble 1llnovedback and forth within the said s e 3. A container for the reception of a'lipstick or similar compact, comprising a main tubular casing closed at one end and open at the other end, a tubular sliell removably disposed within said main casing, said shell being provided in its opposite sides with longitudinally extending slots, a slide-ring mounted upon said shell, Ymeans connected with said ring and extending, -through said slots for engagement with the lip-stick or compact, and whereby said lip-'stick or com pact may be moved back and forth within the said shell, combined with a cap mounted upon an end-portion of said shell, said cap serving as a ingerpiece for Said shell and as a closure for the open end of the main casing.
4. A container for the .reception of a lipstick or similar compact, comprising a main tubular casing closed at one end and open at the other end, a tubular shell removably disposed within said main casing, said shell being provided in its opposite sides' with longitudinally extending slots, a slide-ring mounted upon said shell, and a thimble within said shell, said th'nnble being provided with slits in alinement with said slots,
and engaging lugs extending from said ring into and through theslots in said shell and into the slits in said thimble for engagement with the lip-stick or compact, and lwhereby said lip-stmk or compact may be moved back and forth within the same shell, combined with a cap mounted upon an .end- -:rtion of said. shell, said cap serving as a gerpiece for said shell and. as a closure for the open end of the main casing.
In testimony that I claim the invention set forth above I have hereunto set my hand
