FILE AND HOLDER THEREFOR.
Application filed February 17, 1923; Serial No. 619,742.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HAROLD GABRIEL KIRBY, a British subject, residing at 3l Goldsmith Avenue, Acton, London, W. 3, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Files and Holders Therefor, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to liles and holders therefor.
An object of the invention is to provide a convenient form of holder in which a flexible nail file can conveniently be supported at both ends while enabling it to be bent to a concave shape by the pressure exerted when it is in use. A further object isr to provide an improved manicure implement, and other objects and featuresof the invention will be readily understood from the following description of a preferred form of implement made in accordance therewith.
Referring to the drawings Fig. l is an elevation,
Fig. 2 is a plan, and Fig. 3 a perspective view.
In the form illustrated a straight length of flexible file l is supported at both ends within slots provided with suitable retain# ing means and the holder 2 is cut to a concave shape between'the slots so that the file in use can be pressed down to or towards a similar concave form. The ends of the file may be slotted longitudinally for a short distance as at 3, and the slots l, 4 in the holder correspondingly notched as at 5 to retain the file in position. The holder may have one of its ends formed as a point 6 and the other as a scoop 7 to enable it to serve as a complete manicure implement.
It is to be understood'that, while the above description of a preferred form of the invention is given for the purpose. of enabling it to be readily carried into practice, it is not desired to conline the invention thereto but to include devices and modifications within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
I claim 1. The combination of a flexible nail file with a holder adapted to support the lile at its two ends and having a space into which the intermediate part of the file is flexed when in use.
2. A flexible file, a holder for said file comprising in combination retaining means for each end of the file and a rigid intermediate concave portion towards which the file is adapted to be pressed in use.
3. A flexible file, a holder for said file having a space into which the intermediate portion of the file is adapted to be bent to a greater or less extent according to the pressure exerted by the user and retaining means for the ends of the file, said means permitting longitudinal mo-vement of one of the said ends.
4;. A manicure implement comprising a holder having its ends formed respectively as a point and as a scoop, and a flexible iile anchored at its ends to said holder, said holder being formed adjacent the le to permit flexing of the file intermediate its ends toward the holder.
5. A flexible manicure i'ile in combination with a holder having undercut slots into which the ends of said file are inserted, an intermediate concave portion, and means coacting with the ends of the tile to prevent lateral, while permitting sufficient longitudinal, movement thereof in the holder to enable the file to be bent down into said concave portion.
6. A flexible manicure file with slotted ends, and a holder having means to cooperate with the slotted ends of the le.
7. A manicure implement comprising in combination a holder having a rigid holder with a concave intermediate portion and undercut slots at its ends, a flexible file with slotted ends, and projections in said undercut slots adapted to co-act with the slotted ends of the file and to permit it to be liexed while preventing it from moving laterally in the holder.
8. A rigid holder having slotted ends and an intermediate portion of concave form, said slotted ends being provided with projections within the slots, and a flexible file terminally formed to cooperate with said v slotted ends and projections.
9. A manicure implement, comprising a rigid holder and a flexible tile arranged in the holder and capable of being flexed to- Ward the holder intermediate its ends.
In testimony whereof I atix my signature.
HAROLD GABRIEL KIRBY.
