Description

FLING & A. LAN D Ironing-Tables.
Patented March 24 L we 7% UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
LEANDER J. FLING, OF HUDSON, AND ABEL LAND, OF HILLSDALE, AS- SIGNOBS TO HORACE BLAOKMAR, OF HILLSDALE, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN lRNlNG-TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 14 8,943, dated March 24,1874; application vfiled January 31, 1874.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that we, LEAIWER J. FLING, of Hudson, Lenawee county, and ABEL LAND, of Hillsdale, in the county of Hillsdale, and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stationary Skirt- Board and Ironing-Table Combined 5 and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a combined skirt-board and ironing-table, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a longitudinal section, and Fig. 2 front view of the same.
A represents a board of suitable height, to rest against the wall of a house and be fastened to the same by screws a a, the lower edge of the board, resting upon the ioor, as shown particularly in Fig. l. At the upper inner edge of the board A are hinged a skirtboard, B, and a table, O, the Vhinges of the table being so arranged that when the table is thrown up against the wall the edge of the table will rest upon the upper' edge of the board A, while the hinge of the skirt-board B is so arranged that when the skirt-board is thrown down in a horizontal position, the inner edge of the skirt-board will be against the Y front side of the' board A, and when thrown up it will be against the table C. On the under side of the skirt-board B, between earsor projections b b, is hinged a brace, D, which is,
at its outer or free end, provided with a pin,
d, fastened to it by means of a metal strap, c. This end of the brace, with the pin, slides in a vertical guide, G, attached to the front face of the board A. In this guide is a T-shapcd slot or groove for the end of the brace 'and the pin l to move in. The brace D is Iliade of such length that when the skirt-board B is thrown down in a horizontal position, the lower end of the brace, though held in the guide G, will rest on the door and form a rm support for the skirt-board. Vhen the table Gis to be used, it is thrown down in a horizontal position upon and supported by the ironing-board B. When neither is desired for use, they are thrown up in a vertical position against the wall, and may be held by means of hooks or other suitable fastening devices.
The whole forms a simple and convenient device, which can be easily attached to the wall, and when not in use is entirely out of the way.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the board A, hinged table C, hinged skirt-board B, hinged brace D, provided with pin d, and the vertical guide G, having T-shaped slot or groove, all constructed substantially as and for the Purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
