CABINET FOLDING IBONING BOARD.
-Application med October 27, 1923. Serial No. 671,112.
To all whom z'zf` may concern:
lBe it known that I, FRED H. Bunn, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Cabinet Folding Ironing Boards, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in oldable ironing boards, and the object of my improvement is to su ply a device of this class which is foldab y mounted in a cabinet, the device being constructed for simplicity and strength, ease of operation, arranged so that when folded back into. a cabinet it will be stably positioned there1n,\ and whose movable bracing means is constructed to facilitate proper support of the ironing board when extended.
'lhe above object l have accomplished by the means which are hereinafter described and claimed, and which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. l is a front elevation of my improved device,I with the cabinet door opened, and the iron ing board folded back thereinto, parts ci the jambe being broken away. Fig. 2 is a vertical section trom front to rear of said cabinet, on a larger scale, with the ironing board and its connections in side elevation, and the dotted lines showing the board extended. lFig. 3 is a detail view of the swing ing brace and slide roller for the ironing board. Fig. d is a rear end elevation of the ironing board, showing its pintle-carrying body secured thereon.
Fllhe cabinet tor the ironing board l has an open front between side jambe 2, and is provlded with a swinging or hinged door d. Pllhe janibs have parts within the cabinet provided with vertical grooves or slidewa s 3.
he board l has a cylindrical bar 5 secured across the lower tace thereoli at its rear end bn means oi bolts 7 and nuts i6. d cylindrica pintle tt ol' less diameter projects outwardly from the ends of the y 5 into sockets in the inner wall ot the sides of the cabinet, to rock therein.
A cross-bar l0 is secured by screws il or nails upon the lower tace of the board l a little to the rear ot the middle thereorp and has a medial longitudinal groove i3 along its tace which contacts with the board to receive the cross art l2 oit swinging rod mem 9. il. cy indrical body 8 is orinced near its opposite ends to receive the end parts of the members 9 therethrough, and secured by nuts 14 and 15 on opposlte sides of the body 8. The end parts of the body 8 are seated slidably in the grooves 3, so that the upper and lower closed ends of the grooves limit the up and down movements of the body 8. When the ironing board is extended, the pintle ends of the body 8 are at and held by the lower closed ends of the grooves 3, and when the board l has been swung back into the cabinet, the ends of said body 8 are positioned at the u per closed ends of said grooves 3. As the Ibrace-members 9 are integral with their connectin cross part l2, they provide strong bracket supports for the horizontal board, ca able pt resisting much pressure while the atter 1s 1n use.
The cross-bar l0 provides a strong reinforcement for the board to prevent its warp ing or splitti lt will be the board pintle 6 are positioned consider ably to the rear of and below the upper ends of the grooves 3. As shown in Fig. l in the lull lines, when the ironing board l has been swung back into the cabinet, this mode ot pivotlng the board intle 6 below and to the rear of the ends et t e body 8 when the latter are at the upper ends ci the grooves 3 locates the board in a very stable raised position, a little inclined rearwardly, where its whole weight is to the rear of said pintle, and Where the board cannot be accidentally tilted forward except by the use of purposeful force. As the weight of the brace-members 9-12 is supported on the board 1. to the rear oi the pintle 6, this weight is added to that necessary to be lifted to swing the board l forward.
Having described my invention, what ll claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. An apparatus ol the class described, comprising an inclosure having a front opening and havin sockets in its o posite sides spaced a considerable distance om its back wall, an ironing board having a pintle rockably mounted in said sockets, said inclosure having upwardly directed closed end guideways at its opposite sides positioned forward or said sockets, and a brace element swingingly connected to said ironin board and having a pintle movable to i tro in said guideways, the brace pintle engaging the 0 I(libserved that the sockets lor lill " of seis?. guieweye when. boerse is exeees en@ geg epee? ende of the gueweye the looe tedl beekwmoy 2 im eppemme ou? @he dass @.eeerbeis eompxising me ineesufe le-ving e nron'e opem7 ing en having beerimg sockets in its eppoe site sides, en ironing boer@ hevng e mte fixed upon the under side of its reel' en and. rookeby mounted in seid seoke, seid in closure having vertical gudeweys et is opposte sides positioned orwar of seid Soekes, seid sockets being located. ep roximetey .mediallyoto the rear of said gui eways, and e brace-rod Whose middle part is pvotally mounted across the middle' of the lower fece om eine ende o seid mex-mineit on 3i he eezmy projecting emee which eee memeo. zo eice to emi :ifm e. ee guae@ wegfs :3o the?, when. they are posiaiomei ein be lower ende of fne guaeweys the imeng boer@ is beki im. en extended I oosong emf when they ere posione. et the u per emile o he guideweys ehe ironing boer is tilted beek into said inolosure te the neer of seid pinda.,
