To all whom it may concem:
Be it known that I, Lorne Novornr, a citizen of the United States of America residing at Valparaiso, in the county of Saunders and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Bushing-Removing Tools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in bushing removing tools and has particular reference to a tool for removing the bushing of a iston.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a tool for removin bushings from pistons wherein a tool rodias a head detachably mounted upon one end thereof for entering the transverse bore of a piston and further havin a block slidably mounted upon the tool r51 for possessive engag ment with an abutment carried by the'rod in forcin a bushing from a piston.
With t e above and other objects in view as the nature of'the invention is better understood, the same consists of the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing, wherem like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Fi re 1 is a side elevational view of a bushing removing tool with a portion of a piston partially illustrated in section associated with the tool with the hammer block and removable head for the tool shown in section, the hammer block bein further i1- lustrated in a dotted line'position showing the operation thereof, and
Fi re 2 is a top plan view of the tool.
Re erring more in detail to the accompanying drawing, the bushing removing tool is illustrated as operatively associated with a iston 1 having the usual transverse bore 2 m' which a bushing 3 is removably po-- sitioned.
The tool for removin from the piston 4 emb shank 4 havin an integral head 5 formed at the outer en thereof while the inner en of the rod 4 is threaded as at 6.
A solid cylindrical head 7 carrying an annular outwardly directed flange 8 carries a poly nal inner extension 9, inwardly of the ange -8- that is socketed and inter-. nall threaded as illustrated in Fig. 1 to receive the threaded end 6 of the tool red the bushing 3 'es :an elongated 4, the polygonal 'ortion 9 facilitating the mountin of the sad 7 upon the threaded end of t 0 rod.
A slidin block is mounted u on the rod 4, and inclgldes an elongated tu ular collar portion 10 having an enlarged head 11 at one end thereof adapted for ready gripping of the block, the integral head 5 at the outer end of the rod limiting movement of the block in one direction, while the pin 12 extendin transversely of the rod 4 and projecting rom opposite sides thereof as illustrated limits movement of the sliding block in the opposite direction.
In the use of the device itrzbein noted that the removable head 711s ofa s1ze that is freely received in the bore 2 of the piston, is placed in the outer end of the piston 4 and the block slidable upon the rod is forcefully moved thereover to strike the transverse pin 12 to cause the head 7 to strike the adjacent end of the piston bushing 3, removing the same from the piston bore 2 as illustrated in Fig. 1, movement of the rod 4 and head E7 transversely of the piston being limited by the flange 8 ada. ted
for engagement with the outer face 0 the piston as will be obvious from an inspection of Fig. 1. Removable mountin of the head 7, permits substitution of bee s of various SIZES for association with piston bores of different diameters, rendering the tool substantially universal'in its use b the sub stitution of the desired head 7. f desired, the sliding block may be gripped by the operator and an implement employed for striking the rod head 5 to remove the bushing, kthe rod freely sliding through the bloc While there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the present invention it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therem without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is 1. In a bushing removing tool for pistons, a rod having an integral head at one end, a removable head having an outwardly directed annular flange carried by the other end of the rod, a transverse pin carried by the rod adjacent the removable head and a block slidable on the rod between the integral head and in to forcefully strike the pin and move t e removable head into engaget with a bushing.
2. In a tool for removing bushings from pistons, the combination with a piston having a transverse bore and bushing therein, of a tool having a removable head entering the piston bore for engagement with the bushing, an annular flange carried by the removable head adapted for engagement with the side wall of a piston to limit movement of the head into'the piston bore, and a block shdably mounted on the IOii- 3. In a tool for removing bushings from pistons, the combination with a piston beving a transverse bore and bushin therein, of a tool having a removable hea entering memes the piston bore for engagement with the 15 bushmg, an annular flange carried by the removable head; adapted for I engagement with the side wall of a pistonto limit move- 'ment of the head into the piston bore, a
transverse pin carried by the rod adjacent 20 In testimony whereof I affix my signa- 25 where.
