CAN-COVER REMOVER.
Application filed July 14, 1922.
To all whom it may concem:
Be it known that we, DURWARD M. ALLEN and JEREMIAH E. HAYEs, citizens of the United States, residing at Binghamton, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Can-Cover Removers, of which the following 'is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in can cover removers and it has for its object to provide a simple, compact, easily con structed and serviceable can cover remover and one which may be manufactured at little expense. With these objects in view, our invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:

The same reference characters denote like parts in each of the several figures of the drawings. In carrying out our invention, we provide a handle A, securely mounted in the handle A we have the projecting shank B, provided with the slot 2. Pivotally mounted in any convenient manner on shank B, by means of pivot in the slot, We have the curved arm 3, while pivotally mounted in the extreme end of the shank B, we have the curved arm 4 and connecting the arm 8 with arm 4 and pivotally mounted in the extreme ends of each, we have the curved connecting arm 5.
It is to be noted that our device may be constructed in different sizes and with the curved arms of different lengths, so as to be able to have it appliedto cans of different sizes.

In theoperation of our device, to place it in pos1t1on to use upon a can cover, we turn the arms so that the combined arm sections form an extended ring as shown in Fig. 1, this we place over the can cover C, draw down arms 4: and 5 until they contact, together with the end of the shank B, against the side of the can cover, as shown in Fig. 2, in which position the device securely grasps the can cover and with our left hand grasping the body of the can, we turn the handle A to the left, grasping the can cover and turning the same. WVhen we wish to reverse this movement, we remove the arms 3, 4c and 5 from contact with the cover, completely reversing the position of our device, and turn it over so that the under side of the handle as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, be comes the upper side in the grasping of the can.
In one modified form of our device as shown in Fig. 4:, we have on the inner edge of the pivoted arm 3 the series of teeth or ridges 6, 6 for the better grasping of the can cover in the process of removal. In another modified form of our device, We have the shank B project into a point D which is adapted to pry ofi? the can lid or loosen it from contact with the can body or other purposes of that kind; this point may be formed on the. shank itself as shown in Figs. 5 and 6 or as a separate member E, it may be pivoted on the under side of the end of shank B as shown in Figs. 7 and 8 and when in use it is turned outward in alinement with shank B and when not in use it is pivotally reversed and turned back towards the handle A, as shown in Fig. 8.
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and for which we desire Letters Patent is as follows:
A single handled can cover remover comprising a handle, a shank secured in the handle'and provided with a slot intermediate its ends, the outer end of the shank being pointed to engage the can cover, a
- curved link pivotally connected to the pointed end of the shank, another curved link provided with a pin for traversing the slot in the shank and an intermediate link for connecting the other links together.
