Description

Dec." 11 1923, 1,477,482 1.. J. HARPIN WASHBOARD CLAMP Fil ed Nov. 15'. 1922:
Patented Dec. 11, 1923.
ama
arena oar,
LOUIS J. HARPIN, F KANKAKEE, ILLINOIS.
WASHBOARD CLAMP.
Application filed November 13. 1922.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs J. HARPIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kankakee, in the county of Kankakee and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washboard Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to wash board clamps.
One of the objects is to provide a clamp for holding a wash board in place in a laundry tub. I
A further object is to provide a clamp that will permit the lower end of the wash board to be moved up and back, on the fulcrum provided by the clamp, and to be bodily moved circumferentially of the tub without permitting it to be removed from the tub until the clamp is first removed.
Another object is to provide a clamp that may quickly be attached to a wash board and to a tub and as quickly removed therefrom.
Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear from a consideration of the following description when taken in conjunct on with the drawings, forming a part hereof, wherein Fig. 1 is a substantially full size clamp shown in perspective.
Fig. 2 is a section thru a fragment of a laundry tub showing the board and clamp in position.
Fig. 3 is a rear view of Fig. 2.
In all the views the same reference characters indicate corresponding parts.
The preferred form of the clamp consists of a strap 5 of suitable width and thickness to withstand the strain to be imposed upon it, having one of its ends 6 turned laterally Serial No. 600,720.
and bifurcated into two pointed prongs 7 to engage one side 8 of the washboard 9. The other end of the strap 5 is also laterally bent to provide the part 10 which is perforated and threaded for a screw 11 having a wing terminal 12 by which to conveniently turn the bolt and having a swiveling nut 18 on the other end for adjustably engaging the side 14 of the board 9.
A clip 15 is bent upon itself into U-shape and has an inturned end 16 to engage the outersurface of the tub. It also is slotted, at 17, to receive a headed bolt 18 which is pivotally secured to the strap 5 near the longitudinal center thereof. The device is held. on the board after being applied thereto, as shown, by turning the screw 11.
The tub 20, as shown, has an annular bead 21 near its top edge, below which the in turned end 16 engages the outside surface of the tub. This bead, when present, contributes usefully to hold the clamp in place.
The slot 17 permits some latitude of adjustment of the clip 15 with respect to the bead or beads that may be present upon the upper edge of the tub.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:--
A clamp to hold a wash board in place within a laundry tub, comprising a strap bent laterally at each of its ends, one end having pointed prongs to engage the side edges of a wash board, and a screw threaded into the other end to adjustably engage the other side edge of the board and a clip pivotally connected to the strap intermediate its ends to secure the clamp to the tub.
In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name.
LOUIS J. HARPIN.
