'An object of the invention is to `provide a simple bed which is leasilycollapsible into compactform for storage and transportation.
Another object is to provide for powerful leverage easily applied inthe operation of setting up the bed, ,whereby the bed bottom will be drawn taut andall of the parts including detachable legs will be held together with perfect `rigidity within the requirements ofthe art.
The invention comprises the combination with av spring bed bottom, yof a frame, members of which are hinged together by hinges having the axes of their pivots at right angles to the plane of the bed bottom and arranged on the inner sides of said members so that the members can be bent outward in the operation of collapsing the frame, and forced back from the outwardly bent position to the straight position with practical ease in setting up the frame; and by this, construction it is possible to utilize the spring bed bottom as a purchase to assist inapplying toggle joint leverage to the work of stretching the spring bed bottom, and putting it under tension.
Another feature of the invention is the use 'of the supporting legs to pivot together the rigid and the toggle jointed members of the frame so that when the members which are jointed between their ends are brought into extended position to stretch the bed bottom, the action of the springs of the bed bottom tend to draw opposite members of the frame toward each other to cooperate with the leverage of the jointed frame members so as to `clamp thelegs in place and to give absolute rigidityto they legs as well as to the frame when the frame is stretched.
Another object is to provide a combined metalV and wood collapsiblel frame of great strength and lightness.

Preferably the jointed members are each constructed with two wooden bars of equal length; making four of such bars to eachV bed frame.
lt is understood that any suitable material and any appropriate dimensions may be used in the construction of this invention and thatthe materials therein specified are those that are preferred.
The collapsible rectangular bed frame l consists of the pairs of members comprising end plates 2, 3, and knuckle jointed side members 4, 5, that are pivotally connected atvthe corners of frame l by cylindrical posts or legs 6.
The end plates 2, 3 are provided with flanges 7, 8 between which the ends of jointed members 4, 5 are adapted to fit; and through the flanges 7, 8 are holes 9 that are adapted to register with holes 10 through the ends of jointed members 4, 5; and the legs 6 are made a sliding fit through holes 9, 10 to pivotally connect the frame members together.
Legs 6 are provided with cotter pins or supports 11 at a predetermined height that temporarily hold the bed frame 1 up in a horizontal plane while'the bed is in course of erection. To this end the respective ends of members 2, 3 and 4, 5 are placed together and the top ends of the four legs inserted from the underside of the registering holes 9, l0 until the Cotter pins or stops 11 contact with the bottom flanges 8 of end plates 2, 3 whereby the 'frame is supported until the erection of the bed is comone another as shown by dotted lines in y Fig. 3.

In a collapsible bed having a pair of side and a pair of end frame members and a sprin bed bottom with opposite ends connecte to said pair of end frame members, legs detachably and pivotally connectingthe ends of said pairs of end and side frame members, hinges interposed in said side `frame members and arranged to extend said side frame members to apply tension to said spring bed bottom and pressure on said legs to hold them in pla-ce when the hinged portions of said end are moved toward one another, means for limiting the movement of said hinges toward one another when the ends of said end and side frame members are pivotally connected, and means for holding said side frame members in extended position when said hinges have reached the limit of movement toward one another.

In a collapsible bed having a pair of side and a pair of end frame members and a spring bed bottom with op osite ends connected to said pair of end rame members, legs detachably connecting the ends of the end and side frame members; said legs forming pivots between said side and end frame members; hinges interposed in said side members and arranged so that said side members have a toggle movement relative to the end frame members to extend said side frame members and apply tension to the spring bed bottom and to clasp or pinch the leg pivots; webbed stops connected with said hinges to limit their movement in one direction, and means for holding said side frame members in extended position when they have been moved to apply tension to the spring bed bottom and pinch or clasp said legs.
4. In combination with a spring bed bottom, two frame members fastened to the Spring bed bottom; two toggle jointed members pivoted to the rst named members by legs projecting from one side of said frame so that the tension put upon the spring bed bottom by extending the jointed members will clamp the legs in place.
5. In a collapsible bed having a pair of end frame members and a spring bed bottom with opposite ends connected to said members; a pair of side frame members; legs detachably and pivotally connecting the ends of said pair of side frame members to the ends of said pair of end frame members and provided with stops to support said pairs oi members; and hinges interposed in said pair of side frame members and arranged to extend said side frame members to apply tension to said spring bed bottom and Ito clamp said legs in position.
