Be it known that I, Josnrn lH. "Wrssanin, ya citizen of the United States, and resident l of East Cleveland, in the county of Cuyav Li hoga and State of Ohio, have .invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hot- 'Water Boilers, of which l hereby declare the following to be a full, clean-and exact de? scription, such as willrenable others skilled in the artv to which it appertains to maire and useV the same.
The objects of the invention are to provide a boiler for heating purposes, enclosing a central combustion chamber, to enable the water to be heated quickly.
The principle of operation includes a circulating system in which the water is .caused to take a downward direction from the inlet at the top of the boiler, and then circulates around and about the combustion chamber 'and enlarged passages leading therefrom, and when it has absorbed heat from contact with the heated surfaces of the aforesaid passages, is then directed' upwards, passing again over the aforesaid heated surfaces, and finally into the circulating' system of the house.
The invention further includes the employment of vertical external passages in which the water flows downwardly, and horizontal passages communicating therewith, and a central combustion chamber and an outlet flue therefor, the aforesaid outletlue being provided with vertically spaced and horizontally enlarged portions, connected by means of vertical lines that .extend throughl the aforesaid horizontal water passages.
The invention also includes a boiler construction composed of a multiple number of superimposed horizontal sections, in which the water Howsalternately in opposite directions.
The invention further includes the combination and arrangement of parts and construction of the various parts, hereinafter described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.

As many sections may be employed as be'necessary to raiseJ thefboiler to any height desired.
'In these views', A, B, C, D, represent the bottom, intermediate and top sections, respectively.
The bottom section comprises a combustion chamber, A', resting upon a. hollow base, A2, which is used as an ash pit when ccalis usedas fuel.
A door, A3, is provided with a. damper, A4,
for admission of air.
This combustion chamber A is enclosed on the sides and top bv means of a water jacket, A5, and central and marginal outlet flues AG, As, convey the products of combustion to the section above.
The section B rests upon the bottom section A, and is provided with the central horizontal shallow recesses, B3, B2, for the circulation of the products of combustion vand which are formed in the top and bottom walls thereof respectively, and register with reversed recesses C and A7 in the section C above andbottom section A respectively, the opposed recesses forming flue chambers or passages between them for products of combustion. The flue chambers formed in this manner are then connected by means of spaced vertical flues, B4, B4.
The third section, C, is provided with similar horizontal recesses, C', C2, at bottom and top whichV register with the recesses, B3,
and D in the sections respectively belowl and above the section, C. Flues,` C3, C3, connect the chambers formed in this manner.
The upper section, D, is provided with the recess, D in its lower face, and also is provided with a central outlet lue, D2, com4 -municating between the sections, C and D.
rlhe water enters the upper section at D3, and after passing over the central flue chamber beneath the upper section, travels downwardly through an external pipe, D, which connects the upper section with the next one, C, below.
This pipe is cast integrally with the walls of the adjoining sections, and a sleeve, D5, connects the sections together. l
The water, entering the chamber, C, traverses the same horizontally over the flue chamber between the sections,B and C, and thence travels downwardly through the eX- ternal pipe, C4, cast integrally with the walls of the sections, into the chamber, B, and the parts of the pipe are connected by means of the sleeve, C5. Y
The Vwater passing through this chamber is directed downwardly through the pipe, B5, which extends to and communicates with the sectionA, adjacent to its bottom.

In operation, the water, entering in the upper section, descends through the several sections to the lower section, and rises therey into the top of this section, and becomes Vcomprising a bottomsection, a water chamber enclosing` the sides and top wall` thereon. `and a multiple number or"l1ollow'sections superimposed thereon, the'top section provided with a water inlet opening and with a central horizontal recess in 4its lower wall, and the next adjoining section provided with a complementary recess in its upper wall `and with acorrespondngV recess in its lower wall, and the next adjoining section provided with similar recesses in its upper and pipes, and exterior vertical pipes connecting theupper parts or said superimposed hollow sections with the lower parts of the next adjoining sections below.

In ay hot water boiler, superimposed sections, provided with circulating passages for the products of combustion and water, comprising a bottom section, a water chamber enclosing the sides and top wall thereof, and a multiple number of hollow sections superimposed thereon, the. top section provided with a water inlet opening and with a central horizontal recess in its lower wall, and the next adjoining section provided with r.a complementary recess in its upper wall and with a. corresponding` recess in its lower wall, and the next adjoining section provided with similar recesses in its upper and lower walls, said recesses in said adjoining sections registering` with each other and forming horizontally extending flue chambers, said chambers connected by vertical pipes, and exterior vertical pipes connecting the upper parts of said superimposed hollow sections with the lower parts of the next adjoining sections below, said vertical pipesl
