Be it known that I, HERMAN L. GREVE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of New York, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mailing Wrappers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates tomailing wrappers and particularly for wrappers for books.

The object of my invention is to provide a mailing wrapper of simple construction, the body portion of which is made of a single piece. of material that can be folded to form pleats if desired, and having its edge portions reinforced to protect the top and bottom edges of the cover and pages of the book.

A further object of my invention is to provide a wrapper with edge portions that can be easily bent to conform to the shape of the end of the book to be mailedor wrapped and that will hold its form after being bent into the proper shape.

Referring to the drawings which form a part of this specification V Fig. 1 is a plan view of a wrapper made preferably of a sheet of paper and embodyinir my invention. f

Fig. 2 is an end view of the construction illustrated in Figure 1.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of my wrapper inclosing a book and ready for mailing.

A, indicates the body portion of the wrapper which may be made of paper, cloth, eather or other suitable material, but I prefer to use strong wrapping paper on account of its cheapness for most of the books mailed. B, indicates the edgeportions that rest adjacent the top and bottom ends of the book respectively when the same is wrapped, and B indicates a strip of soft material such as lead, zinc or soft iron, or other suitable material of a character that permits it to be easily bent to the desired outline of the edge of the book enclosed by the wrapper and to maintain its form after being so bent. The

strip B may be fiat or round in cross sec-' tion, and is inclosed by folding the'edge of the wrapper around it and cementing the contacting wrapper portions together as illustrated in Figure 2. V This reinforcing strip and inclosing fold is preferably located on the inner sideof the body portion so that its inner edge rests on the end of the cover of the book as illustrated at C-C, and thus presents a smooth outer surface while the book cover serves as an abutment for the protecting strip B and prevents it shifting on the book. The body portion may be scored as shown at Gr so that where the wrapper is too wide for the book, folds or pleats DDD, etc.,may be formed to adjust itto the desired width and it is then wrapped about the book as illustrated and secured by the string E as shown, the string being held by the button construction F of the usual type used in mailing wrappers, or the package may be held together by a strip ofgummed paper of well known commercial construction and application.

The sheets are shipped to the.user in flat form packages and used as required.

Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A mailing wrapper comprising a body portion of flexible material having oppositely disposed side edges reinforced by a stiff yielding material, said yielding material being disposed in the plane of the back of an enclosed book and adapted to hold its form after being bent into shape as and for the purpose set forth.

2. A mailing wrapper comprising a body portion of flexible material having its side edges reinforced by a stiff yielding material, said yielding material being disposed in the plane of the back of an enclosed book and adapted to hold its form=after being bent into shape, said reinforced material being located on the inner side of the wrapper relative toa book to be inclosed and adapted to overlie and abut the edge thereof.

A wrapper comprising a body portion of flexible material having its side portions reinforced by a stiff yielding material adapted to hold its form after being bent into shape and provided with scoring lines spaced apart a distance to permit the body portion tobe easily folded to form pleats for the purpose described.

4:. A wrapper comprising a body portion of flexible material having the two oppositely disposed side portions reinforced by a. strip of stiff yielding material adapted-to hold its form after being bent into shape and located on the inner side'of the body porformed in the body portion to strengthen the Wrapper and by which it may be adjusted in its Width.

5. A mailing Wrapper comprising a body portion of flexible material 4nd rectangular form consisting of a sheet of a single thickness and having two of its opposite free edge portions reinforced by av stifi' yielding mate rial, said yielding material being disposed in the plane of the back of an enclosed book and adapted to'hold its form after be- Signed at New Yorkcity, in the county of 15 Kings and State [of New York, this 8th day of July, A.
