CQNNECTICUT, CORPORATION' OF CON- PHONGGRAPH.
Application filed May 1,
provide a phonograph that is capable of be` in conveniently and quickly assembled.
ith these general objects in 'iew, the invention consists in the combinations, details of construction and arrangement of parts which will first be described in connection with the accompanying drawings and then more particularly pointed out.
In the drawing,
Figure l is a plan view with parts broken away of a phonograph constructed in ac cordance with the invention;
Figure 2 is a. view in vertical section;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view through the controllers;
Figure 4 is a view, in longitudinal section, taken just above the cabinet shelf; and
Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawing, above the cabinet shelf 1l rotates a turntable i2, mounted on a! motor driven spindle 18. ln the par tieular embodiment illustrated, this spindle is journaled in a boss le and a bearing `bracket l5. This base plate, as appears in Fie. 2, has a diameter greater than the opening in the cabinet shelf, so that the base plate, carrying the motor mechanism, may be suspended from the top of the cabinet shelf. The spindle is shown having worm teeth 17 and is driven through any suitable connecting train from a drive gear 1S. This latter is rotated in known mannervby a. motor spring indicated conventionally by the spring housing 19.
There is provided a centrifugal speed governor. Although capable of various constructions, in that here shown, rotating with the spindle 13 is a `gear 2l meshing with a toothed governor shaft 22. Governor weights 23 are carried on flexible bows Qlimounted on upper and lower collars Q5. 26. The upper collar 25 is fast on shaft 22 and tho lower collar 2G is slidable on the shaft. The lower collar` carries a 'brake disk 2T adapted to cooperate with a frictional brake shoe 28. As the speed of the spiir dle increases, the .veigbi's, moving outwardly, bend the bows 2li and lift the brake disk towards the brake shoe, contactl of these braking members serving` to limit the speed.
The invention in its entirety includes timing mechanism for setting the governor to give different speeds. This maybe accomplished, for example, by shitting the po sition of the brake shoe 28. Although capablo of various constructions, in that here illustrated, the brake shoe is mounted on one arm of a bell-crank lever Q9 pivoted on a part of the bracket 16. The other end of the bell crank 29 is connected by a link 30 with a pin 3l extending through an opening 32 in the base plate. The pin 31 is mounted on one end of a bell crank lever 33 located above the base plate and pivoted on a pin 34; carried by the baseplate. The other arm of the bell crank 3B is connected by a connecting rod 35 with a timing controller. L i
The timing controller, in the present exi enipliication, includes an operating knob 36 pinned to a stud 37 mounted in a bracket 38 hereinafter referred to. The connecting rod 35 is cccentrically pinned to the stud 237 by a screw 39. The bracket 38 may have an indicating` dial as shown in Fig. 1.
Then it is desired to speed up the turntable, the controller knob is turned (clockwise in Fig. l.) to pull the connecting rod 35 forward. Through the connections described, this swiugs bellrrank 29 to raise the brake shoe 28 further away from the brake disk 27. When the controller knob is turned in the oppositie direction to reduce speed, the parts are moved reverscly by the force of a spring i() connected to bell crank 29 and the brake shoe is broughtnearer the brake disk.
:t spring ll located between the bracket and a washer 42 carried by stud 37 serves to hold the parts in the position given.
ln the order that the governor may give the true speed indicated. the inventioniinoludes means for adjusting the timing mechanism for a. given timing position. This may be accomplished, for example,
necting rod 5. ,illtliough t furious constructions, in the en'ilnldiinffrnt here shown, the end oi the Connecting; rod 3:3 is slidable in the ot the bell r. "do

The top et one side is highe 'than the other to provide e. housing` ior the ports of the timing controller already described. The `housing of the brake eontrol element is secured to the bracket by e screw 57 or the like.
1With the construction described, the unit Comprising the brake controller, the timing Controller and the supporting brochet nifty he assembled apart Afrom the cabinet. Liliewise the motor meoh :mism may be assembled :is a unit. Then it is only necessary to drop the motor unit into the shelf opening, so it is suspended by the bese plete from the top to secure it in place, as by L-o. Ahe controller unit is then setlie shelf, es by ser `Ws 46. After rodto bell crank 33, the turntable muy be placed on the spindle. The construction described, therefore', by `providonly tiro independently :Lssenibled units simplilies grefeitly the assembly of the yerious mechanisms with the cabinet.
