To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, ANTHONY BIBARIC, a citizen of Yugoslavia, residing at St. Michael, in the county of Cambria and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Applianoes for Bank Tellers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates 'to certain new and useful improvements in safety appliances for bank tellers and has particular reference to the idea of providing a device associated with the front wall of ateller cage that may be operated bythe foot of a teller for gripping the legs of a person positioned outwardly of the front wall of the cage to prevent bank robberies and thefts of money.
The primary object of the invention resides in the provision of a theft preventing attachment for the front wall of a cage of a bank teller that is operable by t-he foot of a teller for gripping and retaining the person positioned outwardly of the 'front wall of the cage to prevent bank thefts, visual and audible signals being simultaneously operated to give an alarm to other employees of the bank.
`With the above general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the present invention consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawings and in f which like characters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the views.

Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawings, and particularly to Figs. 1 and 2 there is illustrated a room of a'bank designated by the numeral 1 having a floor line 2 while the teller cages positioned in the room embody a front wall 3 of solid construction of substantially waist height, with the usual gratings a mounted upon-the upper edge-of the wall, while partitions 5 associated with the front wall 3 provide for separate cages 6. Each cage 6 has a. window frame 7 provided in the front grating 4 that encloses a metallic plate 8 having an eye opening 9 adjacent the center thereof and being cut away at 10 adjacent the outwardly positioned counter 11. The front wall 3 of each cage 6 is provided with a longitudinally extending cut away Vportion 12 adjacent the floor 2 for housing the gripping arms of the safety appliance now to be described.
The safety appliance embodies an inverted U-shaped frame 13 secured to the floor 2 as shown in Fig. 7 and is positioned slightly inwardly of the cut away portion 12 of the front wall 3, a post 14 extending from the Hoor to the upper end of the U-shaped frame as illustrated. A pair of gripping arms 15 and 16 are rotatably supported upon the post 14, the arm 15 carrying an angular-ly bent portion 17 adjacent the post- 14 and being provided with aI bearing 18 for mounting on said post, an extension trip lever 19 .being `carried by the bearing end mounted upon the post 14k and an angularly` bent trip lever 2l extending 'inwardly :trom said bearing, the trip levers 19 and 2l extending in the same direction inwardly ot the wall 3 and being normally spaced whef the gripping arms l5 and 1.6 are in their set retracted positions as shown in Figs. 5 and T. An audible and visual alarm are. associated with the operating mechanism 'for the gripping arms, a pair ot contacts; 34C shown in` Fig. 6 being in circuit withtheelectric wire that communicates withV the battery 3G, the-bell B71 and lamp 38.
