new and useful Improvements in Pile-Cut ter Knives, of which the following is a speci fication.
This invention relates to pile fabric cutting knives, as used in connection with looms for weaving and cutting the pile for floats, as formed over wires which extend 1n the d1- rection of the warp andabove the firmer woven base layer or portion of thefaloric.
One of the objects is to providea series of knives for cutting the loosely confined or floating-filler threads at a point adjacent the lay as the weaving progresses. v

In operation, when the cutter blade 56 1 is-rocked or oscillated so that its upper edge 59 is substantially paralled with the base 26, the thread or threads 46 are moved upon the edge surfaces 51, as shown in Figure 2 and as the cutter blade is rocked into the position shown in Figure 3, they will be severed. At the same time the blade is moved rearwardly in its holder, due to the movement of the rod 22 as acted upon by the bar 53, giving a cutting effect that is positive in its operation.

A pile cutting device comprising a Y pair of support rods, a plurality of knife holders having trans-verse'openings suited to slidably engage said rods, the sides of said holders inclined downward at their advance ends, blades closely engaged in said holders, said blades being shaped to present their cutting edges outwardly beyond the edges of said holders or be retracted there within, means for reciprocating said blades relative to said holders, guard extensions on said holders adapted to guide material and maintain it in position to be severed upon the advance'ot said blades, and means in said holders for engaging longitudinal warp wires in the fabric to be cut.

A pile cutting device comprising a pair of support rods, a plurality of knife holders having transverse openings suited to slidably engage said rods, the sides of said holders inclining downward at their advance end, blades suited to operate in said holders, said blades rocking on one of said rods, means for oscillating said blades, cutting edges on said blades arranged in cooperative relation to the inclination of said holder edges, guard extensions on said holders adapted to maintaininaterial in the path of said blade, and means in said holders for engaging longitudinal warp wires in the fabric to be cut.

A pile cutting device comprising a blade holder of U shaped cross section having an oblique end directed towards the pile, front and rear support rods for said holder, a blade in said holder oscillatably mounted on the front support rod, said blade having-an oblique straight cutting edge disposed in reverse relationto the oblique portion of said holder, and means for oscillating said blade whereby the cutting edge 'aised andlowered.
5. A pile cutting device comprising blade holder of U shaped cross section having an oblique end directed towards the pile, said holder having a slot in its side walls near its center, a rod movable in the ment oned slot, a knlie in said holder having arecess in its lower edge suited to en said rod, the cutting edge of said knife extending obliquely from the recess to its extreme upper corner, a bar resting on the upper edge of said knife over the slot in said holder, rigid connections between the ends of said bar and said rod, and means for rocking said bar whereby a combined rear- 'Wdld sliding and downwardly turning shear *DlOilOll is imparted to the cutting edge of said knife.
