My device is formed of metal and may be formed in one piece and comprises a grate portion 10 formed as a I disk convexed outwardly and provided with a series of perforations 11 which are here shown as circular but which might be of any other shape if preferred. This 'disk 10 is of a size substantially equal to the diameter of the pipe bowl at the bottom portion thereof and is adapted to support the tobacco placed within the pipe bowl.

Formed upon one side of the disk 17 and extending'at ri ht angles thereto, is an upwardly disposed strip 19 which is bent upon itself, as indicated at 20, to define a clamp or cli engageahle over the rim of the bowl for olding the device in position.

In Fire 7 the arrangement is the same but the structure is diflerent inasmuch as the device is formed from a single length of wire having one end portion spira ly' coiled, as shown, to define a convex disk-like portion 21 from which, extends a vertical portion 22 which is bent upon itself, as indicated at 23, to define a clip engageable over the rim of the bowl. lhe terminal portion of this clip is coiled, as indicated at 24, to

form a handle whereby thedevice may be inserted or removed from the pipe.

In all forms of the device the utility is the same and it will be quite apparent that when my device is. used it will prevent tobacco within the pipe bowl from reaching the botv tom of the bowl and will therefore prevent it from becoming wet. The device therefore insures a cool dry smoke and the utilization of all the tobacco.
