VANITY CASE. Y
' Application led January 25, 1923. Serial No. 614,861.
T all whom 'itmg/ concern.'
Be it known that I, BnNNm F. Osrnowsin, a citizen of the United States., and resident of San Jose, in the county oit' Santa Clara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vanity Cases, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a combination mirror and comb case which may be caried in a vest pocket on a gentlemans chain.
It is the object of my invention to provide a device of the character indicated in which the comb is carried in an individual compartment of the case vand is easily withdrawn for use by It is another object of my invention to provide a device of the character indicated in which the mirror is mounted upon a hinged cover to enable the same to be swung outwardly when in use and protected against breakage when closed. n
Yet another object of my invention is to provide a. compartment in a device of the character indicated adapted to receive a picture, stamps or other small objects.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character indicated which is simple in construction, easily manufactured and one that is highly letlicient in its practical use for the purposes above set forth.
In the drawing z- Figure 1 is a sectional view on line 1-1-1 of Figure 2.
Figure 2 is a sectional view on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a front elevation of the case, parts being broken away.
Referring more particularly to the drawing I show a rectangular metallic case 1 having a partition 2 placed vertically therein in the position shown. At 3 is shown a second partition placed at right angles toy partition 1 to form a comb carrying` compartment 4 as shown. A second compartment picture may be placed or if desired stamps or other small articles.
Hingedly mounted to the lower edge16 of case 1 is a cover 7 having a mirror 8 mounted upon its inner side as shown. This cover may be swung outwardly as indicated in dotted lines in Figure 2 thus giving free access to compartment 5 and allowing use of the .mirror 8, the mirror being protected the releasing of a catch.
' shown.
being thus formed as at 5 in which a.l
from breakage when the cover is closed asis apparent. The cover 7 is held closed by means of a catch 9 secured to case 1 and passing through anorifice 10 in the cover as shown. This catch l9 is opened by pressing on pin 11 which projects through the top of case 1,
Mounted upon the lower portion of case 1 and within compartmentl is a spring 12 engaging the lower end of comb 13 which passes through orice 14 in case 1 as shown. r1`he said comb is held from rattling in the compartment 1- by Ameans of springs 15-16 mounted upon case 1 and partition 3 respectively as shown, the comb passing between the same. u
Slidably mounted in orifice 17 in parti# tion 2 is a catch'member 18 having an upstanding portion 19l passing1 thru slot 2O in case 1 and bent to form a ring 21 as .z
Portion 22 of catch 18 engages a slot 23 in comb 13 as shown, and is held in this engaging position by means of yspring 211 secured to case 1. i'
y Ring 21 is used to secure the case to a watch chain if .desired and is also used to slide catch 18 out of engagement with slot 23 in comb 13 whereupon the spring 12 forces the comb upwardly a distance as in- 8 dicated in dotted lines in Figure 3, allowing the comb to be readily grasped in order to remove the same from the case 1 when it is desired to comb the hair.
The pin 11 isnow depressed forcing catch 9 downwardly in slot 10 of cover 7 allowing the cover to be swung outwardly to bring the mirror in position for use. l
The compartment 4t is closed off from view by partitions 2-3 while compartment 5 is open to view when the mirror is being used thus allowing the articles placed in the compartment to be easily reached.
Thus' it is seen that I have provided a comb and mirror casewhich is simple in construction, easily manufactured, easily operated ,and highly efficient in its practical application.
It is to be understood, of course, that while I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention that changes in proportion, materials, method of construction and operation may be made within the scope of the appendedv claims.
