uni-Tao STATES CARL BEER; OI SU- NEW JERSEY- DISHWASHER.
Application filed 3111911, 1920. Serial No. 397,877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL Bnnan, a cltizen of the United States, residing at Summit in the county ofUnion and State of New ersay, have invented new and useful Im rovements in Dishwashers, of which the ollowing)is a sfpecification.
ne the difliculties in dish washmlg arises from the shapes of the dishes whic make it diflicult, if not impossible with most devices, to reach all parts'of some dishes without changing. the position of the dishes in the apparatus. ThlS is particularly true of cup-shaped dishes and this invention particularly designed to facilitate the washmg of such shaped dishes,
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follows Fig. 1 shows a. plan view of a dish-washing tray.
Fig. 2 a side elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 an end elevation.
The tray frame is formed with a rectangular upper wire 1 and a lower rectangular shapedwire 2. These are connected'by the end wires 3 which are looped at the top forming handles for the tray. Wirenetting 4 is drawn across the bottom and formed at the sides, the ends of the wires of the netting being turned over th upper rod completing the tray.
Arranged at intervals in the bottom of the tray are a series of water deflectors 6. These deflectors are formed with the lugs 7 by which they are secured to the wires of the netting. These deflectors preferably are U- bends with inlets 8 ppening upwardly and the discharge end 9 opening upwardly. The inlet end and discharge end of the U-bend are preferably slightly above the plane of the netting and have a recess 10 formed between them into which the edge of a cup or similar article may be set, the cup being placed over the dischar end.
These U-bends are distributed with relation to the ordinary size cups or similar articles so that such articles may be laced overthe discharge end in an inverte position. Such a cup is shown in dash lines at 11. Cleansing water is directed into the inlet 8 as indicated preferably from a nozzle 12.
.It will be readily seen that,.as the water strikes the U-bend when discharged downwardly'as indicated in Fig. 3 it is deflected cess between the inlet and l and discharged into the interior of the inverted cup thoroughly cleansin The outside of the cup can e readily cleansed by the direct action of the water. Cups may be readily rinsed, if desired, from the spout of an ordinary tea-kettle, the discharge from such spout having ample velocity to be so deflected as to cover the entire interior of the cup. In this way" all parts of cup-shaped articles may be thoroughly was ed and rinsed without any this cup.
change in the position-of such cups. Ordinarily the bottom of the tray is above any water level so that the full force'of a jet maybe delivered to the inlet of the What I claim as new is 1. In a dish-washer, the combination of a dish-support; and a water deflector havdeflector.
ing an outlet adapted to discharge into a cup-shaped dish on the support and an inlet adapted to receive a jetof water from a different direction than the direction of dis-. charge.
2. In a dish-washerpthe combination of a dish-support; and a water deflector having an'upwardly directed discharge and an inlet adapted .to receive a ,jet of water from a difierent direction than the direction of discharge.--
3. In a' dish-washer, the combination of a dish-support; and a water deflector adapted to discharge water into a dish supported on the dish support, said deflector having an upwardly opening inlet adapted to receive a jet of water. 4
4. In a. dish-washer, the combination of a horizontally extending dish-support; and conduits having U-bends arranged in said support and adapted to discharge into inverted cups arranged over the U-bends and to receive water from above.
5. In a dish-washer, the combination of a horizontally extending dish-support; and
conduits having 'U-bends arranged in said support and having outlets adapted t'o dise charge into inverted cups arranged over the U-bends and inlets adapted to receive water from above, said U-bends each having a reto receive the edge of the cup.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand. v
' CARL BBEER.
