HOG TROU'GH.

Application filed November 2, 1922. Serial No. 598,558.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM HIRD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cuba City, in the county of Grant, State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Hog Trough; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and'use the same.

The invention relates to hog troughs and has for its object to form the trough from concrete and to provide the same with a reinforcing frame extending longitudinally of the trough at opposite sides of the cham ber therein and below the chamber, said reinforcing being formed from a single piece of material bent to form.

With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invent-ion.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates an elongated hog trough, which is formed from plastic material, such for instance as concrete and which is preferably rectangular shaped as shown. The trough 1 is provided with a chamber 2, which chamber has its bottom 3 concaved thereby eliminating corners and places in which material will collect, and at the same time allowing hogs to lick the trough clean. By forming the device from concrete it is obvious that the same will be of sufiicient weight to prevent tilting of the trough or movement of the trough by the hogs.

parallel and longitudinally disposed bars 5, 6 and 7. The frame 6 is formed from a single piece of rod bent at 8 to form the eye 9, said eye being carried by the portion 5. The other end of the portion 5 is bent at 10 to form the upwardly and outwardly extending member 11, which member is bent at 12 to form the portion 6, and then at 13 to form the downwardly and inwardly extending portion 14. The portion 14 extends through the eye 9, thence upwardly and outwardly to form the portion 15 and thence at 16 to form the portion 7. Portion 7 is bent at 17 to form the downwardly and inwardly extending portion 18, which portion 18 has its end twisted at 19 around the portion 5, thereby forming the frame from a single piece of rod material, and at the same time providing reinforcing means for the sides and ends as well as the bottom of the trough.

From the above it will bevseen that a reinforced concrete trough is provided which is simple in construction, strong and durable and one which cannot be moved around by hogs or turned over, and at the same time constructed in such a manner that the entire contents thereof may be consumed by the hogs.

The invention having been. set forth what is claimed as new and useful is The combination with a plastic hog trough having a chamber therein, of means i for reinforcing said plastic trough, said means comprising a reinforcing frame, said frame being formed from a single piece of wire and comprising parallel longitudinally disposed bars, one of said bars being disposed on opposite sides of the chamber, another bar being disposed longitudinally below the bottom of the chamber and converging bars extending downwardly from the ends of the bars on the opposite sides of the chamber and connecting the bar disposed below the chamber thereto.
