To all w 720m it may concern Be it known that I, EDWIN S. MIX, a citi zen of the United States, and resident of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belts, of

which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to belts and more particularly to the type having a buckle in one end adapted to secure the other end of the belt. An object of this invention is to so construct a belt that it may be readily connected and disconnected from the buckle without the employment of snap fasteners or other similar metallic fastening devices. A furtherobject of'the invention is to provide a connection between a belt and its buckle which will be pleasing in appearance and, at the same time, inexpensive to manufacture.

To these and other ends the invention consists of certain parts and combinations of parts all of which will be hereinafter described, the novel features being pointed out in the appended claims.

In the illustrated embodiment of the invention, the belt 1 which may be made of leather or other suitable material has at one end a portion 2' turned inwardly on the rear face of the main portion. This portion 2 carries, in this instance, two loops 3 projecting from the face of the inturned portion 2 opposed to the rear face of the main portion .1, the main portion 1 being passed through said loops when the belt is in condition for use. The junction or bend 4 between the main portion 1 and the inwardly turned portion 2 serves for connecting with the buckle. The buckle may be of a known type comprising a body member 5 with side flanges 6 formed with inclined slots 7 on the Walls of which operate a clamping member 8 at a point removed from the anchoring means. A swinging member or ball 9 has its ends journalled in the-side flanges 6 adacent one end of such side: flanges. The

main portion 1 of the belt. is passed about the bail and throughthe loops 3 until the bail is positioned at the bend 4. In order. to prevent that portion ofthe inwardly turned portion 2 between thebend' 45 and the: two, loops 3 bending and passing through the loops, a reinforcing means is provided between the bend 4 and the loop 3 onsaid inwardly turned portion 2. This reinforcing means, in this instance, is in the form of a piece of leather 10 stitched at 11 or otherwise secured to the portion 2; This; leather may be reduced in thickness and extended at 12 between the two loops 3 and serve for fastening said loops 3 to the inwardly turned portion 2. The end 13 of the reinforcing piece 10 adjacent the bend 4 serves as an abutment for confining the bail 9 against movement at the bend 4. It is apparent that the reinforcing between the loop 3 and the bend 4 may be secured in any suitable manner and it is also apparent that other means may be employed for preventing the movement of the bail or anchoring means away from the bend 4:.

WVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is i 1. In combination with a belt buckle having an anchoring means and a clamping means thereon at a point removed from said anchoring means, a belt having a main portion and a portion turned inwardly on the inner face of the main portion about said anchoring means, said inwardly turned portion being free from the main port-ion except at its turned end and carrying av loop extending about the main portion, and reinforcing means on the inwardly turned ortion betweensaid loop and the anchoring means and free from the main portion.

In combination with a belt buckle having a swinging bail, a belt having a main portion and an inwardly turned portion connected with the main portion. by a bend at one end of the main portion in which the bail is received, said inwardly turned portion being 3. A belt comprising a mainportion, an inwardly turned portion connected with-the main portion by a bend at one end of the latter and free fromthe main portion exceptinwardly turned portion onthe'rear face of the main portion connected with the main portion by. a bend and. free fromthe main portion except at the bend,a loop carried by the inwardly turned portion'and extending about: the main portion, anda shoulder arranged between said loop and the bend between the main portion and the inwardly turned portion ,to prevent movement of the anchoring portion of a belt buckle from the space between the bend and said shoulder. -5. A belt comprising a main portion, an

inwardly turned portion on the rear'face of the main portion connecting the latter by a bend free from the main portion except at the bend, a loop carried by the inwardly turned portion and extending about the main portion, and means for confining a buckle anchoring means at the bend, said means being arranged between the main portion and the inwardly turned portion.

6. A beltcomprising a main portion, an inwardly turned portion connected to the main portion at one'end of the latter and free from the main portion except at the bend, two loops extending from the inwardly turned portion about the main portion, and a reinforcing piece on the inwardly'turned portion, between the latter and the main portion, extending between the loops and also extending from the loo nearest the bend toward the said bend to provide a shoulder adjacent the bend for confining the anchoring means of the buckle against movement from the space vbetween the bend and the shoulder.-
