Description

NITED STATES PATENT EEICE.
ROBERT ARDREY, OE PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHILDRENS CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 145,829, dated December 23, 1873 application filed September 22, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ROBERT ARDREY, a resident of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ohilds Chair; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable thers skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side view of the high chair. Fig. 2 is a plan of the rockers detached. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of walking-chair or table. Fig. 4 is a plan of the leaf. Fig. 5 is a crosssection of leaf with disk inserted. Fig. 6 is a cross-section of leaf with ring inserted. Fig. 7 is a plan of ring.
My invention has relation to nursery-chairs; Vand consists in the construction and novel arrangement of an adjustable foot-rest applied to an elevated stool, removable from its eX- tension-supports, and in the construction of a leaf having a central opening with padded ring, all as hereinafter described.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, which illustrates my improvements, A is a childs arm-chair, having a double seat, a al, the former being made of thin wood and removable, the latter having a central opening or hole, which is usually concealed by the thin seat a. B B are rockers, united by rounds b b, having sockets b b', into which iit the legs a2 a2 of the chair when it is to be used for rocking. C C represent four legs, united by rounds c c, and having sockets c1 o1, into which fit the ends of the legs a2 a2, when a high chair is desired. When a childs table is wanted, the leafD is applied to the legs C C, as shown, said leaf having dowel-pins d d, which enter the sockets c1 c1. The leaf D is formed with a central opening, all, which is filled by a disk, d2, when the device is used as a table. When employed as a walkingchair, the disk is removed and a soft-padded ring, d3, substituted therefor. The casters c2 are formed with sockets, and are removable, being designed for use only with the chair A, and upon the legs C C when used with the leaf D, and are not to be employed with the high chair. E is a swiveled foot-rest, having a curved arm, e, which abuts against the seat and serves as a stop, when said rest is turned down for use with the high chair.
What I claim as my invention is l. The combination, with the stool A, of the swiveled foot-rest E, provided with the curved arm or rest e, the end of which rests against the seat when the rest is lowered to retain the latter in a horizontal position, substantially as shown and described.
2. In combination with the leaf D, having the opening d1, the padded ring d3, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 16th day of September, 1573.
ROBT. ARDREY.
