7 F. DAMIANO ORNAMENTAL AND SUPPORTING ARTICLE Filed Nov. 1921 7% a b I Patented June 5, 1923.
FEDORA DAMIANO, OF CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS.
ORNAMENTAL AND SUPPORTING ARTICLE.
Application filed November s, 1921. Serial No. 513,741.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, FEDORA DAMIANO, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Cambridge, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Ornamental and Supporting Articles, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.
My present invention relates to a combined ornamental and supporting article, and more particularly to such an article of jewelry which will also serve as a useful 5 apparel supporting-means.
There has always been a great demand for a lingerie clasp or device to catch and retain in position, childrens and ladies lingerie or parts thereof where they pass over the shoulders. Various lingerie pins have been used, but have been found unsuccessful because, although the pin would hold the articles together, there was nothing to keep the pin in place on the shoulder of the wearer, and consequently the pin would be displaced with the article or articles and would sli down over the shoulder.
In ad 'tion to this, sometimes one pin would slip over one shoulder, and another time the other pin would slip over the other shoulder. Such displacing of the lingerie shoulder straps presents a disheveled appearance, and necessitates that the wearer continually hitch up her garments to replace same, or sufier the discomfort and conscious embarrassment of leaving the garment displaced and binding on the arm below the shoulder.
I have obviated this diiliculty by providw ing a plurality of holding or gripping devices with a uniform tension on each, so that there will be no more weight or pull on one side than on another. In this way the straps of the lingerie, such as combinations, shirts, vests, and other articles of childrens and ladies under-wearing apparel, will be maintained at all times in a. uniform and balanced position on the shoulders of the wearer.
A further important feature of my invention consists in the fact that I have so devised my present novel article that it is both ornamental and useful, and in addition is the advantage that the main and visible part of the same will be attractive and pleasing to the eye, as well as ornamental, and the serviceable part of the same will not be noticeable to any extent.
In carrying out my invention I prefer to make the same as comprising in combinatmnanecklace, a pendant, and one or more retaining clasps or pins, arranged in mutually balancing posltion, as shown in the drawing. Any kind or manner of lingerie clasp, pin or safety pin, can be used, or the same can be interchangeably aflixed to the necklace.
I believe that my present combination of a necklace and a plurality of suspension points for lingerie is novel and important, and I therefore wish to claim the same herein broadly.
Referring to the drawings, illustrating preferred embodiments of my invention;
F 1g. 1 is a plan view of a necklace embodying my invention, having thereon two lingerie pins and a clasp; and
Fig. 2 is a plan view of a modification, having thereon, three lingerie clasps.
As shown in Fig. 1, I have provided a necklace 1, having thereon the ndant or other ornament 2, the necklace being formed 1n a continuous chain in four sections, umted at four points by rings or the like 3. To these rings 3 are also detachably secured llngerie pins 4, and a lingerie clasp 5, which can be interchanged in any way desired, such as substituting clasps for pins, or vice versa. The lingerie pins 4 are so shaped as to be capable of holding within their gri ping portion a quantity of cloth, such as t estraps from a plurality of undergarments, without bending or injuring the pin.
It will thus be seen that I have provided, as shown in Fig. 1, a three-point suspension for lingerie, the two pins 4 clasping the straps where they come over the shoulders, and the clasp 5 grip ing the upper part of the backortion o the under garments, thus rovi ing a uniform tension, and holding t e undergarments up in an even manner, without undue strain or any discomfort.
In Fig. 2 I have illustrated a modification of my invention, wherein the necklace 1 has thereon the pendant 2 and is joined by the rings 3 as in Fig. 1. From the rings 3 extend small individual chains 6 to which are attached the clasps 7 for the purposes described in Fig. 1. It will be appreciated that these clasps can be interchanged with pins or the like at any time desired.
Any strain or tension put on either side or back of the necklace, will be taken up by the consequent strain or resistance on the opposite side or front and thusthe same will be kept in a uniform position at all times, and in balanced interlocking relationship.
It will be appreciated that I may change the style or size of any parts of my invention, and that the same may be made in any form, size, or style of jewelry, and in combination with one or any plurality of Clasps, pins, and the like.
My invention is further described and defined in the form of claim as follows:
An article of jewelry, comprising a combined ornamental nee ace, having a pendant, and a plurality of apparel clasps arranged in balanced position secured to the necklace and adapted to hold both the necklace and the pendant in predetermined position.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
FEDORA DAMIANO.
