To all lwhom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK E.' FEY, a citi# zen of the United States', and resident of Seattle, in the county olf King and State of l Washington, h-ave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Containers, of which the following is a full, clearhconcise, and exact description, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, forming a l0 part of this specification.
My inventionvrelates to improvements in containers, and is particularly .concerned with, though not limited to, improvements in stamped or pressed metal containers.
The objects of my invention are,
First, to provide a'container comprising two sections which are so shaped that a plurality of said sections can be nested in each other so that they will require but very little space for shipment;
Second, to provide a container of the' class described which comprises' means whereby the two sections can be easily and quickly taken apart for the purpose of cleaning the inside walls, and also easily and quickly secured together -in fluid tight relation;
Third, to provide a container comprising.v
means for protecting from injury the means which are used for securing the two sections together;
Fourth, to provide a c ontainer of Ithe character described comprising means for` preventing the nested sections from wedging` into each other; A ifth, to provide a container having a pair of spaced rings entirely surrounding it, which act as rollers upon which the container can be rolled from place to place and Finally, to provide a containerv of the 40 character described which is simple in construction, rugged, and economical to manufacture. l

From an inspection of Figures 1 and 2,
l it will be-noted that the sections taper grad-v ually from their open ends jto their closed end, thereby providing a construction which to the drawings, myim-y proved container comprises. the two half' permits a plurality of the sections toV be nested, as shown in Figure 2. A cam ring 8 is secured to each section adjacent its open end by electric welding, as shown at 9 and 10, or any other suitable manner. A plurality of lugs 11 extend outwardly froml each of said cam rings and project toward the other section, as shown in Figures 3 and 4. When vthe two sections are assembl d, asshqwn in these res, as well asin Figure- 1, the lugs -o lugs of the other section. vThe surfaces-12 of the lugs 11 are beveled to form aninterrupted outwardly flaringv annular channel extending around the container.
To clam the two sections of the container ether, .provide the locking ring 13 to w ich has an inwardly extending beveled rib, 14' which fits intov the annular channel just referred to. The ring 13 is made lin thel form of a split ring to-facilitateits a plication to the container, and its two en s;
are joined by a right and left hand threaded bolt 15, the` opposite ends of which coact `with thel threaded lugs 1bv on the ends of the ring 13. '-By turning'. the screw 15 in` the proper direction, the two ends of the ring can be drawn to ther, thereby forcing the rib 14 inwar y in the channel formed by the surfaces 12 of the 1ugs, thus drawing the two vsections of the container toward each other and clamping the gasket- 17 between the adjacent ends of the container, to form a liquid-tight joint.
To protect the barrel itself, and also'the 'joint-forming meansjust describedffrom one section project between the v lnjury when the barrelsisrolled from place to place, I provide the two spaced guard rings 18 which are 'preferably formed vlof angle iron and secured to each section` ad,
jacent the cam ring of `that section. The
outwardly extending Hanges of these guard rings project beyond the clamping means and protect them from mechanical injury when the container is rolled along. These guard rings also provide means for preventing the sections from wedging or jammlng in each other when they are nested, as shown when the sections are nested, as shown in Figure 2, there is no wedging action of one section in the surrounding section. o
From the above description, it will be clear that l have provided a container which can be separated into sections so constructed that they can be nested into each other so as to require a minimum amount of space for shipment, and that such 'container comprises means for easily and quickly clamping the two sections of a container to each other in fluidtight relation,
and that suitable means are provided for protecting the clamping means from mechanical injury, these `same means acting as rolling surfaces upon which the container can be rolled. s v
' While I have described the details vof construction Vof one embodiment of my invention, it is to be clearly understood that my invention is not limited to this particular embodiment, but is capable of other adaptations and modifications within the scope of the appended claims. J
Havlng thus described my v invention, what I claim is:
1. A stamped metal container comprising two sections, the adjacent ends of which are o en and the remote ends of which are c osed, said sections tapering toward their closed ends, a ring surrounding each section adjacent its o en end and provided with spaced` outwar 1y extending lugs projecting toward the other section, the lugs of onesection projecting betweenthe lugs of the` other section, the lugs of said sections having beveled faces coacting to form an interrupted outwardly flaring annular channel extending around said container, a split locking ring ha'vin a beveled rib extending into said annular iannel, means yfor tightening said ring to draw said sections toward each other, a asket confined between the adljacent ends o said sections, andan annular ard ring surrounding each section adjacent the cam ring of said section and projectin outwardly beyond said cam ring.

A container comprising two sections, the adjacent ends of which are open and the remote ends of which are closed, a ring surrounding each section adjacent its open end and provided with spaced outwardly extending lugs projecting toward the other section, the lugs of one'section projecting between the lugsvof the other-section, the lugs of said "sections having beveled faces coacting to form an annular channel extending around said container, a split llocking ring having a beveled rib extending into said annular channel, means for tightening said ring to draw said sections toward each other, and a gasket confined between the adjacent ends of said sections.
4. A container comprising two sections, the adjacent ends of which are open, and the remote ends of which are closed, a gasket conlinedv between the adjacent ends of said sections, a locking ring, coacting means on said locking ring and said sections for drawing said sections toward each other, and guard rings one on each of said sections and projecting outwardly beyond said locking ring.

A container including two sections, `the adjacent ends of which are open, each sec-y tion being provided at Lits edge adjacent to its open end with outwardly extending lugs, the lugs of one section being arranged between the lugs of the other section, and a clamping ring arranged between the lugs of said sections respectively.
6. A container including two sections, the adjacent ends of which are open, each section being provided at its edge adjacent to its open endwith outwardly extending lugs, the lugs 'of one section bein arranged to project between 4and beyond t e lugs of the other section so as to form an annular groove therebetween, and a clamping ring arranged within said groove.

8. A container com rising vtwo sections, the adjacent ends of which are open, a locking ring, co-acting means on said locking ring and said sections, for drawing said secand guard rings, one on each of said sections and projecting outwardly beyond said locking ring. 10
