TORCH HOLDER FOE MUSICAL IIISTBUMENTS.
Application filed May 14, 1921.
that class of musical instruments in which the tones are produced by the breath of the musician, such as corncts, flutes. clarinets, trombones, and the like, and has for one of its objects to provide a simply constructed device which may be readily adapted without material structural change to various forms of musical instruments and whereby a flash light torch or the like may be supported in position to illuminate the music sheets held by the usual racks or holders attached to the instrument.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character having means for adjustment to hold the torch devices of various forms and sizes.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claim. and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved device applied.
Fig. 2 is an edge view.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the improved device. l
The improved device comprises a stock or shank 10 of any required length and having coupling element in the form of a resilient splint band 11 at one end having lateral perforated cars 12 at the edges, one of which is internally threaded to receive a clamp screw 13 by which the band may be clamped to a convenient part of a musical instrument, for instance one of the tubes of a trombone, coruet, or the like, and indicated at 1 1.
By this means the stock 10 may be art Serial No. 469,571.
justably supported, preferably near the posite the end provided with the resiliently split band 11, is flattened to provide an en larged end terminal and which is secured by the rivets 16-01 other suitable fastening devices, to split holder 17 which is substantially oval-shaped in cross section and formed at each end with a perforated ear 18. One of the cars 18, is threaded and extending through the other of the ears 18, and engaging in the threaded ear is a clamping screw 19. The holder 17 is of materially greater width than the band 11 and is employed for supporting, as well as connecting with the stock. a light imparting device as indicated at 20.
The stock 10 will be of sufi'icient length.
and bent to any required extent to hold the h light imparting device, with its lens, indicated at 21, directed to throw its light upon the sheet of music held. by the usual rack or holder, not shown, of the musical instru ment, and the stock may be readily bent to adapt the device to various sizes and forms oi musical instrument, as will be obvious.
The device may be of any suitable materiahand plated or otherwise ornamented to correspond to the instrument to which it is attached.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specification, but it will be understood that modifications within the scope of the claimed invention may be made in the construction without departing from the principle or" the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A. torch holder for musical instruments comprising' an elongated one-piece adjustable shank capable of being adjusted at any point throughout its length, a coupling element carried at the inner end of the shank and provided with means for connecting it to instruments of varying sizes, said element being k resilient, a light imparting device holder member secured to the other end of the shank and provided With means for connecting it to light imparting devices of varying sizes, said coupling element being circular in contour and said holder being substantially oval-shaped in contour and of materially greater Width than said coupling element, said coupling element and holder member disposed at right angles With respect to the shank and said element extend- I ingin an opposite direction with respect to the direction of the holder member.
