Be it known that I, LEO J. FREAK, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Ithaca, in the county of Tompkins and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Seat Covers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a cheap and efficient cover for the seat of a water closet which will afford sanitary protection in every way. and prevent the transmission of disease.

An object of my invention is' to provide such a cover that may be formed of a sheet of paper soshaped that it will fit over the usual seat and protect all parts thereof against contact with the body of the user.

Another object is to provide a cover of this type that may be readily detached from a roll when used permitting another sheet to be drawn from a sup ly.

The invention may be employed in connection with a water closet having the usual bowl A, seat B and closure C, which may be of any desired type. Fastened by one or more arms 2 to the edge of the seat B is a container 1 of suitable shape in which may be kept a roll of the sheets D. The individual sheets D are preferably formed in a connected roll, two sheets being shown in Figure 2.

Each sheet has an opening 3 of a generally truncated oval form which corresponds closely with the opening in the seat B though somewhat smaller than the seat opening. The front part of the normal oval opening in the seat is covered in the blank by an apron 4 bounded on three sides by the opening 3 and the slits 5 and connected to the main part of the blank by narrow strips 6.

Each blank may be separate, if desired, but when formed in rolls weakened lines7 may be formed by perforations or in any usual manner permitting the separation of one sheet from the other as desired. These weakenedlines are continuous except where tabs 8 are formed. These have perforations 9 offset from the line 7 and have their sides formed by slits 10 cut through the paper. When a sheet is separated from another indentations 11 are left in one side of the sheet. These tabs 8 are used to take hold of when it is desired to draw out a fresh sheet from the container, but if they are accidentally torn ofi, finger holes 12 in the container permit the user to push out the leading edge of the next sheet.

When a sheet is placed in position as shown in Figure 1 and sat on, the narrow strips 6 will be torn by contact of the body with the apron 4 and the apron will obviously prevent contact of any part of the body with the front portion of the seat or bowl. The used sheet may be detached merely by pulling on the sheet with force enough to detach along the weakened lines, or the lip 13 of the container may provide a stationary knife edge across which the sheet may be torn.

The attachment does not interfere in any way with the usual use of the closet seat if it is desired not to employ the cover. The sheets may be made of any desired paper or similar material and may be medicated or provided with disinfectants. The device is simple in construction and easy to use, but nevertheless very efiicient in attaining the results desired. Obvious modifications will suggest themselves, and it is understoodthat the invention is limited only by the scope of the appended claims.

I claim as my invention 1. A sanitary seat cover-comprising one of a series of connected blanks of material, each blank having an opening conforming to the opening in the seat except at its front portion where the blank has an inwardly extending portion connected at its front by a wide strip and at its rear corners by narrow strips to the main body, said portion providing an apron for the front of the seat when the narrowstrips are torn in use by pressure of the body of the user each blank being connected to adjacent blanks by weakened lines which are offset at points intermediate the sides whereby tabs are formed on the unused sheet when the used sheet is detached.

2. A sanitary seat cover comprising a blank having a body and an opening conforming to the opening in the seat except at its front portion Where the blank has an in Ward extension connected at its front by e 5 Wide portion and at its rear corners by narrow strips to the main body but leaving the major pert of the opening unobstructed, said extension forming an apron for the front of the seat when the narrow strips aretorn in use by pressure of the body of the user. 10
