Description
A. SEMMENDRNGER,
Photographic Plate-Holders. N0. 145,020. 'PatentedNovi 25,1873.
AM. PHOTO iii/ 06M fill/5 00. M X (DSRORIVEIS Mums} UNITED STATES PATENT Orrrcn AUGUST SEMMENDINGER, OF FORT LEE, NEYV JE tSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN PHOTOGRAPHIC PLATE-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,020. dated Novunber 25,1873; application filed September 4,1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, AUGUST SEMMENDIN- GER, of Fort Lee, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvem ent in Photographic Plate- Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which drawing Figure 1 represents a front view of my plateholder when the same is open. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same in the plan as m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a partial section of the same in the plan 9 y, Fig. 1.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists in the arrangement of wire-supports, each provided with two recesses, in the corners of a photographic plateholder, in such a manner that plates or secondary frames of rectangular form can be placed in the holder in two different positions, and at the same time by said wire-supports the corners of the holder are strengthened and firmly retained in position; and furthermore, my wire-supports are cheap, easily made to fit any desired size of holder, and they can be readily inserted or removed.
In the drawing, the letter A designates a, photographic plateholder, which is made to receive square plates of six inches by six, or of any other desirable size. In order to fit this holder for the reception of rectangular plates of six by four inches, or of any other desirable size, I secure in the corners of the holder A wiresupports a, each of which is provided with two recesses, I) 0, (best seen in Fig. 8,) which are separated from each other by a central projection, while the ends of the supports are bent so as to form spurs c, which are inserted into holes provided in the holder for their reception. \Vhen my double-recessed wire-supports are secured in position, a plate or a secondary frame, B, of say, six by four, or of any other rectangular form, can be placed into the holder A, as shown in Fig. 1; and said plate or secondary frame can be reversed by changing its corners from the recesses b to the recesses b of the wire-supports.
From this description it will be readily seen that a plate-holder can be readily fitted up for plates of anions sizes by inserting in its corners double-recessed wire-supports of different lengths; and since my wire-supports are not attacked by the acids or chemicals used by photographers, and, furthermore, said supports serve to strengthen the corners of the holders, the use of my support is of great benefit to photographers.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The supports a bent up of wire, and providcd each with two recesses,b b, and with retaining-spurs c, in combination with a photographic plate-holder, A, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
This specification signed by me this 25th day of August, 1873.
AUG. SEMMENDINGER.
