l To cZZwwmit mayI conce/m1 "Be it'knowny thatl, yCrims'.ferri"en 'MoN- was, a eieren 'of the funn-@afferma rtsi-@ung l from the burs and'other-dust andfdirtl. In
:at 282 Western'Avenue, Blue `sland,i1fithe l `county of Cook andr State 'of Illinois, "haye invented a new and vuseful Improvement in Bur Stands, of whichlthe is fa specification. y This invention relates to rir'r'ipr ifvements in bur-stands; for example, "such `as "areused by dentists for holding thel burs 4or drills used in vtheir work. y
`Such burstandjs, as vheretofore made, are
rordinarily provided vjw'ithjholes oivcavities closedat the bottom, 'for holdinfgfjor'fsup-- porting the b urs. Such holes orcavities are very objectionable, owing/toy the fact that l' they form receptacles orfand retain iilings thisway they soon'become un'sanitary, and often interfere withvthe properv support 'oft the bur. Since such holes or 4cavitiesla'ecomeiilled oiipartially, filledwith dirt, they also preventthe burs'ffriii'coming to the bottom thereof, Solthat it is difficult to know the exact length of a bur by observing the projecting part.kv i y f i In my improved bur-stand the objections' to stands as heretofore ordinarily'made, and as noted above, are done away with. -My stand is so constructed that it can ybe easily and cheaply made. It is also neat in appears ance, and supports the burs without any holes or cavities closed at the bottom, so that it can be easily cleaned and kept in a sanlytary condition. All of the bursin my improved standy are always supported at the saine length so that the exact length of a bur can always be noted hy observing it in position in the bur-'stand The above referred to features and advantages of my bur-stand and others will ap` pear more fully as I proceed with my specication.A x
A form'of device embodying the features of my invention is shown in the accompany- 'ing drawingszin which Fig. l is avertical sectional view taken as indicated hy the line 1 of Fig. 2 and F ig. 2 is a broken plan viewl with the glass cover shown 1n section.
' As ,shown in the drawings, the bur-stand comprises a circular base part ypressed orasuitably formed from sheet metal or other suitable material. This base' part includes a p circular disc 10 having an outer down- [12'forming@#Shoulder'13. Atthe @message formf'arrcaiarnbas'e i-ingii 'misurate there@ 'at Y' a L FIIYL e center of the discflO abase `16 'extends upwardly. The base 1G ishe'ld yin position by endl? below the disc "10. At 'aboutlllialf "itsheight the fhjase '.16 fis jprof, vided with ."ajshoulder 18, 'andfthexuppei lld isfknurled or milledas indicated h1by1,9 t`olaivtord ajs'uitahle vgrf'as'pfor the fingers. y '.BM;@tably mounted, ,on the "base 16 between lthe Tsh'ei'ilde'r 18 dnd the 'diselO is y a Sleeve V*li/lou'nte'd on @thefsleeve 3() is a serie-sof six discs indjicated-byil, 32, 83,3%,35 and 36 respectively commencing at vthe fbdttom. `The,bottom three.. dpscser@ all of. 'th Seme 'Size h-Ddjaaxfly telers@ fas theids 1,0. "The dists 34,'"35 fand 36 .de'vse ,nf'sje as shown. The discs are 'equally spaced "'on the 1 vsleeve '30 by seriesof washers 40 placed betweeny each adjacent two. kThe ends of the sleeve 30 are turned outwardly or riveted as indicated by soy 4-1 in order to clamp the discs and washer together and hold them all tightly on the sleeve. It is obvious that by this construction all the discs7 washers and sleeve can be vided with a row of' holes 51, andV similarly the discs 34 and 35 are provided with a rovv` of holes 52 and 'the discs 35 and 36 with a row of holes 53. The holes 6 arranged in each pair of discs are in vertical alignment so that lours placed therein will be held vertically. It will he noted that under each :such row of holes is a portion of a disc which.
is vnot perforated to serve as a support torv `the bottom ends of the burs. For example. the disc 31 supports the hurs in the holes 5() such `as indicated by 75. i disc 32 inside of the holes 5() acts as a sup- Likewise the port for the burs 77 standing in the holes 51.
Likewise, disc 33 supports the bottoni ends of the hurs 78 in the holes 52, andthe disc 34 supports the hurs 79 in theholes. A glass bell shaped cover 90 is provided as shownk adapted to rest on the flange 112.
It will'he clearly vseen vthat by this conilo f fications.
struction withy discs to support the burs,
`that the ends of none rest in any holes or cavities. By such construction, filings from the bursV themselves 'or any other dust or dirt falls on-to theat discs from which it can be easily removed by merelyblowing sideways through the bur-stand or *tilting broadly as possible in view of the prior art.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent; i
. 1. A bur-stand comprising a base, a support projecting upwardly fromsaid base, and a plurality of horizontally arranged spacedapart plates mounted on said Support and provided with holes adapted to receive and support burs, whereby said stand maybe readily cleaned by a blast of air, or the stand and burs sterilized by dipping the stand with the burs in place in a sterilizing solution. t l Y 2. A bur-stand comprising a circular base, a central post mounted on said base,a sleeve rotatablymounted on said post, and a plurality of horizontally arranged spaced-apart platescarried by said sleeve, said plates be- -ing provided with holes adapted to receive and support burs, whereby said stand may be readily cleaned'by a blast of air, or the stand and burs sterilized by dipping the stand with the burs in place in a sterilizing solution. y
' 3. A bur-stand comprising a base, a support projecting upwardly from said base,v a sleeve rotatably mounted' on said support and a pluralityof horizontally arranged spaced-apart perforated plates carried by said sleeves, the perforations in a plurality of said plates being in lvertical alinement and adapted -toreceive burs, and a plate arrangedbelow said peri'orations -to present an imperforate surface to the lower ends of burs lying within said perforations whereby to retain said burs in place.
Il. A burestand comprising a base, a support rising from said base, a sleeve rotatably mounted on said support, a plurality of spaced-apart plates carried by saidy sleeve and having bur-receiving perforations some of which aline vertically with the perforations inv anv adjacent plate and others of which are in staggered relation thereto.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set fmyphand and sealthis 7th day of September, 1921.
