Description
Patented Feb. 27, ll923.
UllilTEB STATES tenses QFFECEO JAN KOPROWICZ, F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO IVIIKE AUGUSTYNOXVSKI, OF PASSAIC, NEH/V JERSEY.
WASHSTAND.
Application filed January 26, 1922. Serial No. 532,026.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAN Kornowroz a citizen of Poland, residing at Brooklyn, New York, in the county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVashstands, of which the following is a specification.
An object of this invention is to provide a portable wash stand, particularly adapteiil to be used in places not equipped with running water or having sewerage connections.
Another object is the means provided for temporarily disposing of the used water and means for its ultimate removal from the stand.
A further object is the provision of means whereby the height of the basin top may be adjusted to suit the convenience of the person using the stand.
These and other objects, which will become more apparent as the description progresses, are attained by the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the invention.
Figure 2 is a. partial side and longitudinal sectional view thru the basin holder and cover.
Figure 3 is a top plan view showing the cover in raised position.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the numeral 5 designates a hollow tubular colunin to which are attached a plurality of supporting members 6.
A cylindrical plunger 7 is slid-ably engaged within the column 5, and abuts the end of a spring 8 acting as a cushion when the plunger is lowered and assisting in raising the structure when desired. A plug fixed in the lower end of the column supports the lower end of the spring.
A plurality of spaced notches 9 are formed on the peripheral face of the plunger 7, and a locking lever 10, pivoted in the forked lug 11, is provided with an angularly bent end 12, which passing thru a slot in the column, is engageable in any of the notches 9. thus holding the basin at any desired height and a spring 13, secured to the column 5, causes the locking lever 10 to be maintained in engagement.
At the upper end of the plunger 7 is a coni- 55 cal tapered recess 14, receptive of a pin rotatable therein and an adjacent shoulder 16 abuts the end of the plunger 7.
Secured to the upper face of the shoulder element 16 are radially disposed support arms 17, curved arcuately upward and forming a skeleton frame adapted to hold a semi-spherical container 18, an opening being provided thru the container wall into which a removable pan 19 may be slidably entered, said pan having a front 20 con toured to fit the container and provided with a knob 21 for operation.
Above the pan 19 is a partition 22 having a central opening 23 thru which wash water may pass into the pan without splashing.
The upper ends of the frame elements 17 are bent outward forming seats 2 1 on which are supported the flange 25 of the wash basin 26, dowel pins 27, integral with the flange 25, passing thru the frame element 2a securing the basin from accidental displacement.
A cover or top 28 normally rests on the upper edge of the basin 26, and is engaged at the back edge by a hinge 29, one leaf being secured to one of the frame elements 17, a stop 30 is rigidly attached to the hinge, and a projecting buffer 31, preferably of rubber, engages an opening 32, formed in the back edge of the cover when raised as sltown by the dotted lines as in Figure 2.
A mirror 33, shown in Figures 1 and 3 is set into the cover and provides a feature of convenience and utility.
As changes in construction could be made within the scope of the invention, it is intended that all matter contained in the foregoing description or shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A wash stand comprising a plunger slidably mounted in a hollow column, a tapered stud rotatably mounted in the upper end of said plunger, a shouldered head integral with said stud adjacent the plunger,
- a skeleton frame fixed t0 the top of said head,
a casing carried by said frame, a receptacle reniovably engaged in said casing, and a basin adapted to rest On said casing,
2. A Wash stand comprising a. hollow column having a vertically slidable plunger, means for locking the plunger at various heights, a head rotatable at the upper endof said plunger, a frame fixed to said head, a catch pan supported by said head, a removable receptacle slidably held in said catch pan, a perforate, partition disposed over said catch pan and a Wash basin removably supported by the end of said frame.
In witnesswhereof I allix my. signature. 15
AN KOPROVVICZ.
