Description

Patented Feb. E, T923.
PATENT @EEHEEO GEUBGE WALTHER, 0F DAYTON, OHIO;
WHEEL.
Application led February 14, 19.21. .Serial No. 444,639.
To al? lwhom t 71mg/ concer/i:
Be it known that I, GEORGE WALTHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton7 in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Wheels, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to wheels, and in particular to that type of wheel known as a cushion wheel.
The object of my invention is to provide asimple and effective construction for a cushion wheel in which the .respective parts will not slip relative to one another thus abrading the cushioning element.
It is also my object to provide a construction which may be quickly and readily assembled. It is an object of my invention to provide a wheel upon which the usual steel rim can be mounted quickly and effectively.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. l, is a side elevation of one form of my Wheel;
Fig. Q, is a section of Figure l;
Fig. 3, is a side elevation of a modification of my wheel;
Fig. 4, is a section of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawings, 1 is a Wheel, preferably of cast metal, having a felloe 2. rl`his felloe has a bolt 3 transversing it, there being a plurality of these bolts distributed about the periphery of the felloe. This bolt serves to retain a ring 4 on one side of the felloe of the wheel. Mounted y upon the felloe 2 and between the ring 4f and the retaining Wall 5 is a cushion element,
preferably or rubber, 6. Upon this cushion element is mounted a ring 7, which embraces between the side Walls 8 and 9 the cushion element 6. Upon the periphery of 7 is mounted the rim 10 and the tire ll.
In the modification shown in Figures 3 and l the ring 7 has side walls 8 and 9. which completely encase the rubber cushion member 6. In order to sea-l the junction of 9 and the felloe 2, the junction of 8 and the detachable ring 4, sealing rings 1Q are inserted between the depending walls of 7 and the felloe 0n one side and the ring d and the depending wall of 7 on the other side.
Having thus fully described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is.:
ln combination, a wheel, an inner cushioning elemenh a felloe o-n said wheel, a wall integral with the felloe and adapted to embrace the lower portion of said inner cushioning element, a detachable ring forming a wall to embrace the lower portion of the inner cushioning element on the side opposite said first mentioned wall, a bolt passing through the wall body adapted to removabl \v retain the detachable ring in place.I an outer cushioning element, a horizontal ring be-V tween said outer cushioning element and inner cushioning element; and integral downwardly extending walls to clasp the inner cushioningl element at its upper portion whereby lateral strains may be taken entirely by the material of which the inner cushioning element is formed.
In testimony whereof, l affix my signature. y
GEORGE VVALTHER.
