ANGUS E. DETWILER, 0F XFORD, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF T0 WILLATE REED, OF OXFORD, MICHIGAN'.
ROAD-SCRAPER ATTACHMENT FOR TZRCTORS.
Application filed March 1G, 1922. Serial No. 544,28.
To all who/m, t may con-cern Be it lmown that-l, Ansus E. Dnrwnne, a citizen of the United States, residine at Oxford, county of Oakland, State of Mtichigan, have invented a certain new and useful lmprovement in VRoad-Scraper Attachments for'lractors, and declare the following to he a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the :accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a road scraper attachment for tractors shown in the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the following specification and claims. p
rlhis invention is designed as an attachment for the so-called Cletrac or Cleveland tractor. lt may however be applied to any tractor for which it is adapted.
lhe primary object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive road scraper attachment simple and rigidin construction and operation that may be readily attached or removed-from a tractor as required and not apt to get Iout of order.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention further resides in the combination and arrangement of parts andv in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes may be made in the precise embodiment of the invent-ion herein cdis-A closed without departing from the the same.
ln the drawings accompanying this speciication:v
Figure l is va side elevation of a road scraper attachment installed upon a Cletrac type of tractor, shown in dotted lines;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the same.
Figure 8 is a cross-sectional view taken on or about line 3 3 of Figure 2 showing the re-inforcing angle irons secured tothe wall of the scraper. Y
Figure 4 is a detail sectional view through the nut for seeming the side supporting arms of the scraper to the rear axle of the tractor. Y
Referring now to theY letters of reference placed upon the drawings: Y
A, denotes a tractor; B, B, its track spirit of form however is not essential wheels', C, a continuous thread carried by the track wheels. D, is a scraper arc-shaped in cross-section formed ot' sheet metal reinforced by suitable angle irons E riveted to -the back of the scraper. F, F, are side rails terminating in a shoe F at their for- Ward ends to which the scraper is secured. Bolted to the rear end of the rails F, l?, is a littin G- adapted to rock upon the socket nut the socket being tapped to engage' the threaded end of the rear axle. l, l, are rock-arms pivoted at l to the side rails l?. J, denotes a roller jonrnaled in the rockarms l, and K is a link bar pivoted to one of the rocker arms and toa manually operated lever L, pivoted at L to the lside rail F. M, denotes a segmental ratchet bolted to the rail F and N is a dog pivoted to the lever L adapted to engage'the ratchet. N is a link bar connecting the dog with an operating lever N2, in' turn pivoted adjacent to the handle L2 at the upper end ot' the lever L,for releasing the dog when required. P, l), are radius rods lpivoted at one end to an -bolt P', attac-hed to the side rails lV and to the end of the .tractor frame. P2 P2 are turn buckles for adjusting the tension of the roes.
Having indicated the several parts by reference letters the construction and operation of the device .will be readily understood.
'lhe scraper D is preferably secured to the side rails l*l at an angle to the direct thrust of the tractor. The scraper may be adjusted to a higher or lower altitude to suit the requirements or' the work by manually adjusting the lever L, whereby the rock-arms l may be tilted to cause the roll 'J te either contact with the road surface whereby the scraper D may be raised above the surface of the road to any desired degree within the limit of the throw of the lever. rlhe scraper when adjusted may be held in the adjusted position by the dog N engaging the segmentalratchet ltd. v A
The convex end lf of the roller reduces the resistance when turning and for this reason the end of the roller is given an arc-shaped forxn,*as indicated in the drawings. This to the operation of the device.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is: I
1. In combination with a tractoia pair of arms respectively pivoted to each side of yond the forward end of the latter to support a scraper, a scraper secured to the forward end of said arms, a pair of rocking 1erers pivoted to the arms, a roller journaled in said rocking levers, a manually operated lever, a link bar connecting one oli the rocking levers with the manually operated lever and means for securing the manually operated lever when adjusted.
3. In combination with a tractor, a pair of arms respectively pivoted to each side of the tractor and projecting beyond its for ward end, a scraper secured to the forward end of the arms, a pair of radius rods pivoted to the forward end of the arms and to the frame of the tractor, means for increasing the tension of said rods, a pair of rocking levers pivoted to the arms, a roller jour- ,n'aled in the rocking levers andl means for y l.tilting the rocking levers, whereby the roller may raise or lower the altitude of the scraper.
4. In combination with a tractor, a pair of arms having an arc-shaped foot piece at one end, an arc-shaped scraper bolted to the foot piece of the respective arms, a bored fitting secured to the opposite end of each of the arms, a socket nut extending through the bore in each fitting having a screw threaded engagement with each end of the axle, rocker arms pivoted to said arms, a roller journaled in the rocker arms and means for tilting the rocker arms, whereby the roller may loe raised or lowered to adjust the altitude of the scraper. l
5. In combination with a tractor, a pair of arms respectively pivoted at one' end to the axle of the tractor having a lateral extension at their forward ends, a scraper'secured to said lateral extension, means se-Y cured to the scraper for re-inforcing the latter, rocking levers pivoted to said armsand a roller journaled in the 'rocking levers adapt ed to bear upon the road surface to raise or lower the scraper.
6. ln combination with a tractor, a pair of arms pivoted to the axle on each side of the tractor and extending beyond the forward end or' the latter to support a scraper, a scraper secured to the forward end of the arms, a pair of rocking levers pivoted to the arms` a. roller journaled in said rocking members having convex ends, whereby it may more readily follow the direction taken by the tractor and a manually operated lever connected with the rockinglevers for tilting said roller whereby the altitude of the scraper may be raised 0r lowered.
ln testimony whereof, I sign this specification .in the presence of two witnesses.
