Description

Patented Jan. lti, i923.
ERIC E. TUCKER, OF DRYAD, WASHINGTON.
STOVEPIPE BRACE.
Application filed April 15, 1921. Serial No. 461,550.
T (ZZZ wit-om; it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Euro E. TUCKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dryad, in the county of Lewis and State of ld ashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Stovepipe Brace, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a stove pipe brace and has for its principal object to provide means for efiiciently supporting the elbow of a stove pipe as it enters the chimney so as to prevent accidental removal thereof.
Another object of the invention is to generally improve upon braces of this character by providing device which will be of extremely simple, durable and inexpensive construction, and is efiicient and reliable in operation, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With these and numerous other objects in view the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a side elevation of the brace showing same in use,
Figure 2 is a section taken on the line 22 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrow,
Figure 3 is a detailed perspective view of a portion of .the stove pipe retaining means, and
Figure l isv a detailed perspective view of the bracket used in connection with the brace.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that 1 designates an elbow of conventional construction which enters the chin'inev in the usual manner. The wall is indicated by the numeral 2 and receives the bolt which projects through the slot i in the bracke This bracket 5 consists of the triangular shaped plate 6 having the prongs 7 extending from its apexes. An
arm 8 extends from one edge of the plate 6 at an obtuse angle therefrom. and is provided with the eye 9 the plane of which will preferably be at right angles to the plate 6 and a hook 10 extends outwardly from this eye 9.
The stove pipe retaining means consists of the arcuate shaped member 11 which is provided with an aperture 12 for receiving the bolt 13 which, when the device is assembled, will extend through the eye 9 and be held in place by means of the thumb screw 14. The arcuate portion of the member 11 engages the upper portion of the elbow 1 and is held in fixed relation thereto by means of the band 14 which is provided with an eye at one end for engaging the hook 15 positioned on the member 11 while the other end thereof is reduced so as to form the threaded shank 16 which passes through the aperture in the lip 17 so as to be held in place by means of a nut 18. A wire 19 is secured to the lower portion of the elbow l and a wire 20 or other suitable means is attached thereto and adapted to be engaged with the hook 1O for-the obvious purpose of efliciently supporting the elbow and prevent same from tending to slip from engagement with the chimney hole.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and operation of the stove pipe brace will be readily understood without a more extended explanation. As numerous changes in form, proportion, and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of this invention, I do not wish to be limited to the construction herein shown and described other than as claimed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is 1. In combination, a support, a stove pipe elbow passing through the support, a bracket attached to the support, a clamp engaged with the horizontal portion of the elbow and attached to the bracket, said bracket terminating in a hook, and a wire disposed about the vertical portion of the elbow and attached to the hooked termination of the bracket.
2. In combination, a support, a stove pipe elbow passing through the support, a bracket attached to the support above the stove pipe elbow and depending outwardly from the support toward the elbow and terminating in a hook, a clamp engaged with the horizontal portion of the elbow and. attached to the bracket, and a wire disposed above the vertical portion of the elbow and attached to the hook of the bracket.
In testimony whereof I affix my signatu re in presence of two witnesses.
ERIC E. TUCKER. Witnesses:
SIDNEY E. JoHNsoN, Mrs, EBBA S. Jonuson.
