Be it known that I, ISOBEL TUDOR, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, count of Kings, and State of New York,

have Invented a new and Improved Holder, of which the following is a full, clearpand exact description.

My invention relates'to a holder, and alms to provide a device of this nature more particularly adapted for use in connection wlth an extraneous body, or pad of material.

It is a well appreciated fact that considerable difliculty has been experienced in the household use of steel wool, acid soap pads, and similar elements utilized for scouring and general cleansing purposes, primarily for the reason that elements of this nature injure the hand of the user, aside from the fact that they are extremely difiicult to grasp.

Thus my present invention aims to provide a holder which is primarily adapted for use in connection with pads or bodies of the nature specified, and byv means of which an operator may readily manipulate this .pad without injury to the hands, and also to the best advantage to secure an eflicient cleansin action.

Arranged within the tapered lower end of the bore 6 are a plurality of hook sha ed members 10, the shanks 11 of which pro erably incorporate resilient qualities itbeing noted that the upper ends of the shanks are secured to the supplemental body 8. Thus it will be appreciated that the hooks 10 will normally be retained within the constricted area presented by the portions 7 or the bore, 6, incident to the fact that the spring 9 will tend to retract the shanks 11 and consequently the hooks 10 to this point.

However, it will vbe appreciated, that incident to the tapering of the bore, that when the operation occurs, the hooks 10 will be caused to converge towards each other. However upon the supplemental body 8 being forced inwardly with respect to the body 5, and against the tendency of the spring 9 it will be understood that the shanks, and accordingly the hooks, will be protected, and incident to the resilient qualities of the shanks 11, the hooks will move away from each other.

Assuming that a holder thus constructed is to grasp a pad 12 of steel wool or cotton, it will be ap reciated that an operator may bring the b0 y 5 to rest upon this pad subsequent to which the supplemental body is depressed in the manner stated, and afterwards allowed to assume its normal position. The depression of the supplemental body 8 will result in'the hooks 10 moving voutwardly and away' from each other, and

It is to be appreciated that an operator isnow free to use the holder, and may use the pad to great advantage without injury to the fingers. Referring to the type of holder illustratedin Figure 3 it will be seen that the same corresponds substantially to the type oi holder illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 with the exception that the supplemental body 8 and spring 9 are eliminated. Thus, this type of holder, merely includes a body 13 formed with a bore 14 the lower en of which is tapered 'as at 15,- it beingnoted that theshanks 16 of hooks 17 are disposed within the bore 14 and in such a position that v the operator may grasp the upper ends of these shanks and move the same with re-' s ect'to the body 13. Thus assuming that t e shanks 16 incorporate resilient qualities it will be appreciated that the movement.
