HOSE AND ROPE REEL.
Application filed August 18, 1921.
To alZ whomit may concern:
Be it known that EDWIN LAMB, a citrzen of the United States ofAmerica, resid ng at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, has invented certaln new and useful Impro-vements'in Hose and lit-ope Reels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a hose andrope reel. The principal object is to provide a device which keeps the hose or rope in a sheltered container, and at the same time easily manipulated.
Another object of the inventlon is to provide a device consisting of an outer casing containing an inner revolve-b le drum, having an exterior circular channel. It is the purpose of this invention to reel in the hose in this circular channel so that the hose or rope is reeled away in a spiral format on.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device with outlets at the bottom of the circular channel, and outlets in the bottom of the casing for the purpose of providing a suitable draining means, when the reel is used for a hose reel.
The drawing illustrates a preferred en 1- bodiment of the invention. However, it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meeting different conditions, various,
changes in the form, and minor details of construction, may be resorted to without departin from the nature of the lnvention, as claimed and set forth inthe drawing: Figure 1 is a side elevat on. Figure 2 is a cross section of Figure 1, taken on the line A--A. a
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the device with the lid removed.
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail view, Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description, and indicated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
By referring to Flgures 1 and 3 1t will be seen that the device embodies a casing 1, which is circular in form, and has a lid 2 hinged to its upper portion by means; of a hinge 3. This lid 2 1s provided with a lug 4, having an openlng 1n the sameso as to register with the lower lug 5, which is Serial no. 493,374. secured to the upper edge of the casing 1, and directly opposite the hinge 3.
By referring to Figure 2 it will be seen that this casing 1 has a pivot member 6 centrally secured to the bottom 7 of the casing 1 Registering with this pivot member 6, I have provided a boxing 8, which fits down over its upward extended end. This boxing I 8 supports a drum member 9, and an exterior circular flange 10, which taken in conjunction with the drum member 9 forms a channel 11. The upper end of this drum member 9 has a pivot member 12, which is centrally located on the cross bars 13 and 141:. The upper end of this pivot member 12 extends through an opening 15, which passes through the cross bars 16 and 17. The lid 2 is cone shaped, in order to add strength and, at the same time, providing a desirable form for shedding rain, etc.
In operating the device the hose or rope is thrust into the channel 11, through the opening 18, thereby causing the drum memher 9 to revolve, due to friction, and thereby reeling the hose or rope within the channel 11 in a spiral manner.
By referring to Figures 3 and a the hose or rope 19 is shown being inserted through the inlet tube 20, which guides hose 19 into the channel 11.
When it is desired to unreel theropeor hose 19 the operation is performed by simply pulling the rope or hose 19 out of the opening 18, thereby causing the drum 19 to revolve as it unwinds.
By referring to Figure 2 it will be seen that I have provided drain outlets 21 at the bottom of the channel 11, and also drain outlets 22 in the bottom of the casing 1,
What I claim is:
1, In a device of the class described, a circular casing, a cone shaped lid attached thereto, a hinge and locking means attached to said casing and lid, a drum pivotally mounted within said casing, an outer flange carried by said drum, an opening near the top of said casing leading into an inlet tube, an inlet tube ending directly above a channel formed by means of the drum and said outer. flange, substantially as described and for the described and for the purpose set forth,
the rope or a 2. In a device of the class described, a drum and said outer flange, substantially as comhlnatlon of a circular easlng provlded descnbed and 1:01 the purpose set forth. 1O \vlth a cone shaped hlnged 11d, wlth a drum In testlmony whereof I afiix my slgnature.
