More especially the object of my inventlon is to provide a fastener for the handles of leather bags which will be more convenient than the means hitherto employed for this purpose,

In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a leather bag with my improved fastening means thereon. cording to the present practice, such handles are sewn to the bed and it isc'ustomary to cover the seam or ine of junction of the handle of the bag with a metal ornament,

but ll provide a means in which the metal ornament also functions as a fastener. This fastener C, more fully shown inFig. 6, con sists of a perforated face plate 01, a flange 6 at right angles thereto, and prongs f for in-' sertion into the body of the bag and made inte ral with the fastener, C.

The prongs f are inserted through perforations g which are provided in the handle B and also through perforations g which are provided inv the body of the bag and the said prongs f are then flattened against the body of the bag on the inside thereofas shown in Fig. 5. As can be seen in Fig. 5, each end of the handle B has a single perforation 9' through which the upper prong of the adjacent fastener C'is passed.

, By the means any sewing is obviated and the handles B are held to the body A. firmly without danger of t/earin the fabric of the bag. lltshouldbe note that the ends of the handle B should conform to the shape of the fastener VC and the thickness of the *leather of such handles should also conform lar confi uration, one side of the. angle being substantially perpendicular to the handle B and the other side of the angle beingsubstantially parallel thereto.

The bottom fastener is not inserted through any opening in t e handle B but it is passed through the lower opening 9' in the side of the bag and it is then bent up sharply until it is substantially parallel to the said handle. It will be noted that the base of the, fastener C is on the outer side of the assembled device.

Even though considerable weight is put i into the be A, the configuration of parts abov'eidescribed prevents the fastener from beingpulled awa from the bag without the need of any additional washers or the like.

1. In combination, a bag or the like, having a handle and fastening means for securing the said handle to the said bag, said fastening means comprising a member hav: ing a base portion and a flange extending from the bottom and sides thereof, the base of 'the said fastener bein on the outer side of the assembled parts, t e end of the said handle fitting within the said flange, the said member having fastening prongs located at the upper and lower ends thereof,

thelower fastening pron extending within the wall of the bag and eing bent up substantially parallel to the said wall, the upper fastener extending from the said handle and the said wall substantially at right angles 2. In combination, a bag or the like, having a handle and fastening means for securing the said handle to the said bag, said fas-- handle fitting within the said flange, the said member having fastening prongs located at the'upper and lower ends thereof,

the lower fastening prong extending withinthe'wall of the bag and being bent up sub stantially parallel to the said wall, the upper fastenerextending from the said handle and the said substantially parallel to the said wall, the said fasteners being directly adjacent the said wall of the bag.
