FOOT REST.
Application fiIed May 31,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Vroron L. Ronnnson, citizen of the United States residing in the city of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton of the State of Uhio have inventd certain new and useful Improvements in Foot Rests of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to foot rests-adapted to be secured to thewall or any other suit able surface, and upon which the foot may be placed when it is desired to shine or brush the shoes.
It is the object of my invention to pro-' vide a rest for the foot when shining or brushing shoes, readily adapted to be swung out of the way after using, of simplified construction and great strength, and also to provide a means thereon tor holding the cloth used in shining shoes.
My invention consists of a foot member pivotally mounted on a stationary member, and having a stay member between them pivotally connected to one of the members and slidably connected to the other of the members, and also in the supporting means for the cloth.
My invention further consists in the parts, and combination and arrangement thereof as herein described and claimed.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my improved device in open relation and shown secured to a wall.
Fig. 2 is a similar View but showing the parts in closed relation.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal cross section of the same taken on the line 3-3 of the l and;
l is a vertical. cross section of the same taken on the line l4l of Fig. 3.
In the embodiment of my invention as illustrated and showing a preferred construction of sheet metal, a wall plate 10 has formed thereon lugs 11 having holes 12, in which a pin 13 is carried. The pin has upset ends 14- which retain the same in the lugs. A foot plate 15 comprises a channel 16 having side flanges 17 thereon. The foot plate has holes 18 in vertical walls 19 of the channel adjacent one oi? its ends through which the pin 13 passes. in this manner the foot plate is made to swi about the pin and may either be placed in closed relation against the wall plate or 1921. Serial lilo. 473,951.
held in open position at an angle thereto a stay member 20 hereafter described. lire s1de flanges are cut away at the end ad acent the pin as indicated at 21 provide clea ance for the lugs 11.
The stay member 20 comprises tension rods 22 integrally joined by a yoke The tension rods further have outvi ardlv turned ends 24., which .re received in holes 25 in the vertical walls 19 of the channel intermediate of its ends. The yolte is slidably retained behind a strap 96 and in a slot 27 formed between the same and the outer surface of the wall plate. I prefer to form the strap by pressing the sa he from the body oi. the wall plate wnich leaves it integrally connected thereto by upper end section 28 and lower end section 29 respectively. The yoke 23 and the to sion rods forni loop about the strap which hold the stay mei'nber against lateral movement.
My improved device maybe secured to a wall as by screws 4C0 passing through holes ll in the wall. plate. i
The foot plate furth r has a hook 39, there on adapted to hold a cloth indicated at 2.3. Tlhe hoot: is termed by stamping the same from the bottom wall of the channehand comprises a rounded tang 36 integrally connected to the bottom wall by an angular portion 37. A space 88 is thiis formed between the hottom wall and the tang in which the cloth is adapted to be carried.
it belng assumed that the device has been previously placed in closed relation (see Fig. and it is desired to utilize the same in brushing the shoes, the foot plate is pulled. outwardly and downwardly. This action compels the outwardly turned ends 24- of the stay iiember to rotate in the holes 25 which also causes the yolre 23 to travel'dowm ward in the slot 27 behind the strap 26. The yoke is limited in its downward movement by the lower end section 9.9, where it comes to rest, and thereby in turn limits the downward. movement of the foot plate. The foot plate is thus firmly supported in position. The foot may then be placed on the foot plate. the weight carried thereby being transferred to the wall plate through the medium. of the stay member 20. In this manner considerable weight may be carried by the foot plate without undue strain on the pins 13 or distortion of the parts. The channel form. of the foot plate permits the same to be made of comparatively thin material and yet be strong and durable. The foot plate may atterwards be returned to its position against'the wall plate, the yoke of the stay member traveling upward in the slot. The stay member and the strap 26 is adapted to be received within the channel '16 when in closed position. When thus closed my improved device presents a very neat appearance and occupies very little space.
What I claim as new and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a device of the character described, a stationary plate having a slot therein, a channel member pivotally mounted on said stationary plate, and a stay member having one of its ends pivotally connected to said channel member and the other of its ends slidably retained in said stationary plate.
2. In a device of the character described, a stationary plate, lugs thereon, a pin in said lugs, a channel member pivoted about said pin, flanges on said channel member, apertures being formed in said channel member intermediate of its ends, a stay member comprising tension rods, a yoke forming a connection between said tension rods, said tension rods having outwardly turned ends pivotally received in said apertures, and a strap in said stationary plate on which said yoke is slidably retained.
3. In a device of the character described, a wall plate, a foot plate pivotally connected to said wall plate, said foot plate comprising a channel consisting of side wallsand a bottom wall, said side walls having apertures,
and flanges on said side walls, said wall plate having a slot therein formed by pressing outwardly a portion thereof, a supportingoonnection comprising tension rods, a yolre integrally connecting said side rods and slidably retained in said slot, and outwardly turned ends on said tension rods pivotally received in said apertures, and a hook on said foot plate formed by pressing out a portion of said bottom wall of said channel.
4. In a device of the character described, a wall plate, a pair of lugs on said plate formed by pressing portions upward there from, a pin secured in said lugs, a raised and integrally connected strip on said wall plate formed by pressing outwardly a portion thereof, said raised strip and said wall plate forming a slot there-between, a foot plate comprising a channel cons sting 01 side wails and a bottom wall, flanges on said side is: havin portions thereof cut away adjac one end, said side walls having ap rtures ljacent said cutaway portions wherein said pin is rotatably received in said side walls spaced from said first named apertures. a stay member comprising tension rods and a yoke integrally connecting said tension rods, and slidably retained in said slot by said raised strip on said wall plate, and outwardly turned portions on said te. sion rods pivotally received in said second named apertures in said side walls of said channel in said foot plate, and a hook on said foot plate formed by pressing outwardly a portion thereof.
