Description

J. GABRIEL.
CHILD'S COOP.
APPUCATON FILED JUNE 29, 1921- 1329335, PatentedSept. 19,1922.
Patented Sept. 19, 1922.
JOHN GABRIEL, 0F RANDOLPH, MASSACHUSETTS.
CHILDS 0001?.
Application filed June 29,
To all whom it may concern v Be it known that I, JOHN GABRIEL, citizen of United States, residing at Randolph, in i the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Coops, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a kiddie cage, i. e., a cage for a baby or a small child adapted to safeguard the occupant from injury or from becoming lost, while at the same time permitting freedom of movement for play.
It is the primary object of the invention to provide a device of this character adapted to be collapsed or folded into small compass so that it will occupy very little space, when not in use, but capable of being brought to distended position by a single movement and with very little trouble. The cage when in distended or open position presents a rectangular receptacle with sides high enough to prevent the child from climbing thereover and is provided with a bottom which not only protects the occupant from dampness, where the device is used out of doors, but also constitutes an element which aids in collapsing the structure, when desired.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will be set forth in the detailed description which follows.
In the accompanying drawing-- Fig. l is a vertical sectional view of a coop construction in accordance with the invention; and
Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof.
Like numerals designate corresponding parts in both of the figures of the drawing.
In the drawings 5 designates side rails having the upstanding corner posts 6 at their ends. sidewalls 7 extend between these corner posts along two of the sides of the structure. These sidewalls 7 are fixed sidewalls, that is they do not collapse, consequently they may be made of the lattice structure indicated or they may be made of any other suitable material. However, I prefer to make them of the lattice material shown in order that the four sides of the structure may correspond in appearance. Collapsible sidewalls 8 extend between the 1921. Serial No. 481,283.
corner posts along the other two sides'of the structure and these walls 8 are collapsible, being composed of the diagonally disposed bars 8 and 8 which are p'ivotally connected to each other at their junctions to constitute a lazy tongs structure.
Two floor sections 9 and 10 are hingedly connected along their outer edges to the side rails .5 and are hingedly connected along their inner .edges, to each other, by the hinges 11. A hand grasp, such as a ring 12, is seated in a recess 13 formed in the upper face of one'of the floor sections and by grasp-- ing this ring and pulling upwardly upon the same, the two floor sections are folded upwardly and the side rails 5 are caused to move toward each other, the lazy tongs con-.

struction of the Walls 8 permitting thisv action and permitting these walls to be folded to very compact for 5 To facilitate the moving of the structure from place to place and also to facilitate the ready collapsing of the same, the corner posts 6 are provided with rollers or casters and the under faces of the floor sections are likewise ers 17.
It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction set provided with rollers or castforth but that it includeswithin its purview whatever changes fairly come within either the terms or the spirit of the appended claim.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
A collapsible coop ofthe character described comprising a pair of side rails carrying upstanding posts at each of their ends,
non collapsible side walls extending between the posts above and in alignment with the side rails, a pair of rigid and solid floor sections hingedly connected to said side rails along their outeredges and hingedly connected 'to each other along their inner edges, longitudinally contractile, lazy tong, side walls disposed between the posts at right angles to the non collapsible side walls and having sliding connection with said posts,
casters upon which the posts are mounted and a row of casters along the lnner edges of the floor sectlons, the floor sections belng disposed so close to the ground that the casters thereon may engage the ground and support the floor sections along their hinged on the hand grasp 01": the floor section and juncture With each other, said floor sections being opened by thrusting downwardly on complementally covering the entire area said hand grasp. 1O bounded by the collapsible and non collapsi- In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my ble side Walls, and a hand grasp on one of the signature.
floor sections adjacent its inner edge, said 000p being collapsed by drawing upwardly JOHN GABRIEL.
