The numeral 1% indicates a shaft of less size than the openings 10, 11 and 12, and having one end thereof screw-threaded, as at 1%, the opposite end being adapted for the interchangeable reception of a bushing remover 15 and a bushing replacer 16. In the present instance the method of connecting the remover 15 and replacer 16 is shown comprising an internally threaded socket 17 formed in the end of the shaft 14: and adapted for engagement with reduced threaded extensions 18 formed upon these devices. The remover 18 has the body portion thereof tapered and formed like a tap, as indicated at 19, so that it may be readily engaged in the bushing 13 by rotating the bar. The replacer 16 is provided with a reduced extension 20 adapted to have a sliding fit in the bore of the bushing 13, which reduced extension forms ashoulder 21 upon the re placer adapted to engage against the end of the bushing in a solid manner to enable the bushing to be driven into its position in the opening 12. v
The threaded end 1 F of the bar 14; has slid-ably mounted thereon a member 22 having a sliding fit in one of the openings 10 or 11, preferably in the opening 10, as illustrated, to form a mounting and guide for the bar 14 so that the same may be properly alined with the opening 11 or 12 in which the bushing is to be positioned. This member has a shoulder 23 abutting the wall of the engine frame at the sides of the opening 10 and is adapted to be engaged by a threaded nut 24 mounted upon the screw threads 1 1 of the bar 14. The extremity of the threaded portion 14 of the bar 14 has rigidly secured thereto a wrench-receiving portion 25 wherebv the bar 1a may be rotated as a whole, and this wrench-receiving portion is provided with an extension 26 having a striking face 27 against which a hammer may be applied to drive a bushing into position. This extension 26 may likewise be provided with an opening 28 in which a bar may be inserted to rotate the bar 14 instead of employing a wrench upon the polygonal portion 25.

The bar is then moved inwardly until the bushing 13 engages in the endof'the opening to which it is to be a plied, the nut 24 being shifted back or toward the end of the bar or away from engagement with the member 22. The bar may then be forced longitudinally by blows upon the striking face 27 thereof until the bushing 13 is seated. 7

1. A device for removing or replacing bushings in one of a pair of alined openings,
comprising a member adapted to slidably engage in one of said openings and forming a guide, a bar slidably directedthrough said member and maintained thereby. inalinement with the other of said openings, said bar'being provided upon one end thereof with means whereby it may be rotated and adapted upon the other end thereof for the interchangeable reception ofa busliingreconsequently with-- mover or replacer, and means mounted upon the first named end of the bar for shifting the bar longitudinally through said member. 2. A device for removing or replacing bushings in one-of a pair of alined openings, comprising a member adapted to slidably engage in one of said openings and formin a guide, a bar slidably directed througl i said member and maintained thereby in alinement with the other of said openings, said bar being provided upon one end thereof with means whereby it maybe .rotated and adapted upon the other end thereof for the interchangeable reception of a bushing remover or replacer, and means mounted upon the first named end of the bar for shifting'the bar longitudinally through said member in one direction, the first named end of the bar is likewise provided with a' stril'e. ing face. 3. A device for removing from or replacing bushingsin one of a pair of alined openings, comprising a member adapted to slidably engage in one of said openings and having means limiting its movement therethrough,
