To @ZZ fui/iomz't may concern."
Be it known that l, @Arsen PANZnnna subject of the King of ltaly, residing at Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in lVall-Paper Cutting and Pasting Devices, of which the following is a specification). n
This invention relates to a device for use in papering walls, having more particular reference to a device by which the paste may beapplied to the paper and the latter cut into any desired width.A
The invention has for a general object to provide a device whereby the work of apply ing the paper may be facilitated. ,j `More specifically speakingy the invention has for an object tojpr'ovide a device in which the paper may be either pasted alone, or pasted and cut in the one operation, as desired.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawings is a plan view of a device constructed according to the invention, the cover being removed.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, showing the cover in place.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Eig. 1r is an enlarged vertical section on the line 4-11 of F 1g. 2.
F ig. 5 is a detail longitudinal view, partly in section, of the roll which carries the cutter.
Fig. 6 is an end view thereof.
Fig. 'T is a detail fragmentary elevation .showing the means for holding the freeend applying roll 6. This roll may be constructed in any suitable manner and is here shown as provided with trunnions T engaging in.
mandrel 1() being carried in a trough 11 to receive the roll, the trough 11 being adjustable longitudinally so as to vary the position of the roll therein with respect to the cutting knife, as will be presently pointed out. As
,here shown the trough 11 is slidably mounted 1n a second trough element 12 which latments 14 at 4the upper side edges thereof.
To provide for placing of the roll of paper on the arbor 10 the latter is hinged at j one end as, at 15 to swing vertically, its opposite end engaging ina slot v16 (Fig. 7) in a transverse strap 17 extending across the trough 11 adjacent the opposite end thereof. The arbor is held against displacement from this slot by means of a sliding ferrule 18' on the strap 17 which is slotted as at 19 to take over the arbor, and is provided with a finger bar 20, the ferrule having a frictional sliding lit on the strap. ,Mounted on the arbor 10 toward the hinged end thereof is an endplate 21 which is adj ustably held thereon by a set screw`22. j y y Suitably arranged* adjacent one side of the trough .12 is a double scale 23, the numbers on yone scale running in opposite direc- `tions to Vthose on the other scale, thisl double scale being here shown as arranged on a strip 2&1 secured to and extending along one side of the trough 12.
- thereof. A second roller 28 is mounted Arranged adjacentthe opposite side of the trough 1,2 is the cutting device, which is mounted and constructed as follows: A pair of arms 25 arehinged at -'one'en'd 'as at `'26 to the opposite walls of the box 1 and have a roller 27 mounted 'on the opposite ends under the roller 27', ybeing held in the upper ends of a pair of posts 29 slidably on the walls of the boX and guided by the head screws -30 vtaking through vertical slots Y 31 injthe posts into the walls o f the box. This 'rol-ler 28 is .pressed upwardly by a pair of coiled expension springs 32 which surround a pair Iof pins 33 -Xed in the bottom 'of the box and bear between the said bottom of the box. and outturned -feetu34 on the posts 29.
To hold the top roller 29 against ythe pressure of the springs 32 a pair of hooks 35 are mounted on the walls of the boXfand take over pins 36 on the arms 25.
V Thetop roller is adapted `to carry the cutting element which xconsistsof a sharpened disk 40, and to ,provide for cutting Yeither .side of :the paper vas desired the Aroller is adapted gto, have this cutter mounted on either end thereof.` As here shown the roller .27 :hasua pair -of trunnions 41 (Fig. 5.),at
.opposite ends thereof and is formed with .detachable end pieces 42 which lit snugly on thetrunn-ions, the cutter being received between either of these 'end pieces and the main Vb odyfof'the roller as desired, the latterv having pins 43 projecting from opposite ends thereof into sockets 44 in the end .pieces .42, the critterl 4() having suitable apertures through which the pins pass, thereby ensuring of the main-body of the roller, the cutter, and the end pieces Aall rotating `in unison. lOne of the trunnions 41 may have squared end41 tol lreceive a4 handle for rotating the roller. The roller 28 is formed with peripheral grooves 46 to accommodate the cutter '40.
is as follow-s: The cover 2 being removed, the roll-of paper, `indicated at 50, 'is placed on the arbor 10, a supply of paste being 1 placed in the compartment 4. The .end
plate 21 vis adjusted Ato confine the roll between itself and the strap 17. The cutter 40 is placed on the end of the roller 27 adxjacentthe' side of the paper'whicli is to be cut.
551 will be apparent, the arms 25 being swung The manner of changing the cutter from one end `of the roller l27 to the `other back and one of them sprung outwardly off its trunnionthe end pieces 42 beingplulled `olf the trunnions, the cutter -ohal'iged from one end to the other, the end piecsrepl'aced,
and the arm againfsprung over 'the 'tr'unnion 1t willbe notedl that the .main body ofy the .roller 27 is so arranged, and of such a length, that the cutter 40, when position is opposite the zero mark on the "scale which reads from that `side ofthe boit toward the other. To position the roll then for cutting to the desired width the trough 11 is moved .to be cut .to a width of seventeen inches.
The paper is then 'led between the rollers 27 and 28 backward over the paste roll 6 and under a -guide roller 51, being cut vto the -desired width and having the paste applied thereto, and leaving it ready for applicationto the wall. When the paper does not require `cutting it vmay be leddirectly over the ypasting roll 6 from its supporting arbor 10. lVhen the paper is to be outv on Vthe sifde thereof oppositelto that indicated in Fig. 1 `the cutterb 40 will be changed to `the 'oppoin an opposite direction until the end yl'ilate 21 registers with the proper number on the other scale, with the zero mark of ,which the cutter is now registering.
