Description
-J. BEAR.
GARTER.
APPUCATION FILED NOV-30.1921- Patented Aug. 15, 1922.
JEANIE BEAR, O33 PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
GAB/DER.
Application filed November 30, 1921.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Jeanne BEAR, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Garters, of which improvement the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in garters used to support stockings, and particularly to ladies garters.
The object of my invention is to produce an article of this character, which will efficiently support the stocking on the leg without the use of a support connected to the corset. I accomplish this object by means of the device hereinafter more specifically described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved garter, showing the manner of its application.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation of the garter.
Figure 4c is an elevation of the garter with value receptacle attached.
Referring to said drawings, 1 and 2 are elastic bands, the band 2 being connected at the rear to the semi-elastic link 3 and the band 1 seated in the upper end of the link an appreciable distance from the band 2.
The said band 1 is adapted to encircle the.
leg above the knee, over which the upper end of the stocking a is adapted to be folded. The band 2, which is preferably wider and of less diameter than band 1, is adapted to encircle the leg below the knee. The elastic or semi-elastic link 3, is disposed at the rear of the leg and under the knee joint, the bands 1 and 2 being disposed in said link or loop 3, the band 1 in the upper end thereof and the band 2 in the lower end, an ap- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 15, 1922.
Serial No. 518,823.
preciable distance separating the said bands when the article is in use, whereby when the leg is flexed the bands are maintained separate, thus preventing pinching, causing discomfort in the use of the garter. An adjustable meanswhich in the particular instance comprises the supplemental narrow band 5, attached to the band 2 and having eyelets 7, to receive the stud 6 on the band 2, whereby the slack occasioned by usage may be taken up, by tightening the band 5 sufliciently to bring the next eyelet therein into engagement with the stud adjacent to the one previously engaged. A receptacle. 8, is slidably mounted upon band 1 and is adapted to contain jewels or other valuables and to be securely concealed when the upper end of the stocking is folded over said band 1, as heretofore set forth.
Having described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A garter comprising two elastic members, each adapted to encircle the leg, one above the knee and the other below the knee, a flexible member connecting said upper and lower members, the lower member being disposed at the lower end of said flexible connecting member and having a stud, and the upper member at the upper end of said flexible connecting member, means to take up the slack in the lower member, including a supplemental band attached to and extending over said lower member, and having eyelets adapted to engage the stud on said lower member.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
