To all 'LU/wm it may concern: y
Be it known that l, EDGAR L. Gann, a' citizen of the United States of America, and resident of the cityof Bremerton, in the county of Kitsap and AState of Washington, have invented certain neW and useful lm- .proveinents in a Display ippaiatus,v of which the following "is a specification.
lMy invention relates to display devices and particularly to `devices which are `rarranged to move a card or other articleinto `position to be seen 'readily whereby its inotion Will attract attention, and lthen" to `re turn it to its foriginalposition and to move another.
The object of my invention isv to provide a simple, cheaply constructed and conveniently installed and operated apparatus for the purpose intended.
A further object is the provision of means, in such 'a selective moving apparatus, for varying 'the succession in 'which `the articles are raised and fordoing thisconveniently and rapidly.
A further object is the` provision of means which maybe placed in anordinary show Window Without y"mutilation thereof and 'which may be employed therein to operate vselectivelycardsor articles cfa number arranged in asingle line, or to operate selectively a succession of such lines.
My invention comprises those novel parts and combinations thereof which are shown in the accompanying drawings, described in the specification, and particularly defined by the claims terminating the same.
In the accompanying drawings l have shown my invention in the forms which are no-vv preferred by me.
Figure 1 is a plan vienT of mypresent preferred forni, part being shoivn in scc-` tion. i
Figure 2 `is an aXial'section through the operating or selectingmechahisin therefor.
`Figure 3 is an endele'vaticn thereof.
Figure 4 isa perspective showing a detail of the operating mechanism.
Figure form.
Figure Y FigureV 5 is a planview of a modified is an end view thereof:
y this form,
Figure 8 is a perspective showing the manner. in which my device may be installed and operated `in a show window.
While my device may be employed in Specification of Letters Patent,
i device is In general my device comprises tivo parts ratenrea am. i, ieee.
1921. serial No. vente connection with various articles to raise and to lower them so as to attract attention, it is particularly adapted to be used vvith cards suoli,` for instance, as are `employed in real estate oiiices describing `the various pieces of property listed forsale, and Isha'll, therefore, describe itonly `in connection ivith such cards. Ordinarily'a Windev having only cards on display, containing pictures or descriptions ofthe various pieces of property yis a dead and `unintere sting sight. Bv, injecti attention of the passer-by 'is attracted yafnd his interest aroused, `and thus it is that my particularly v'adapted for such uses.
the rnotor jvith its attached actuating or selecting mechanisms, and the mechanism for supporting the cards and ivhich is `selectively actuated by the device driven the motor. able type, preferably a spring motor. Secured upon a shaft 11 extending from the motor lOare a series of selector disksl. These disks l are provided each lvvith one or more lselector members for contacting ng movement into certaincards they The motor '10 maybe lof any llsuit- With other members to be laterdescribedy and which are carried by the card holding` members.
es 'shown in Figures 1-4 the selector rneinbers upon the disks 1 comprise cams 12. The preferred forinof these calms contains a rise lo. aconcentric `still portion 15, and adrop 17. These canismay be forined integral with the disks l or lseparable therevfrom. The disks` may be made of Wood and the cams provided with pins 13 which be driven into the Wooden disks to hold the cam thereon. These disks may b'e separated slightly axially and I prefer that the relative positions of the various cams 12 be adjustable. l have shown the disks therefore, as having a central aperture 11i.` A
sleeve 2, having a head 2() ivhich engages the side face of the'cam at one end of the series. passes through the apertures 141 of all of the disks. These'disks are secured thereon by meansof a nut 21 threaded in the opposite end of the sleeve 2, `and engaging the sideJ face of the disk at the opposite end of the series to that With which the head A'20 contacts. By loosening the nut 21 thedisksV 1 may be adjusted angularly upon the sleeve 2 to vary the relative angular positions of the cams 12.
The card holdingmeinbers 30vv'hi'ch mayV ing an article to be displayed, a lever secured to the opposite end of each tube, and means for selectively moving said levers from normal position, and for holding them in the new7 position for a time before releasing them. a
8. A display device including a plurality of telescoped and relatively oscillable tubes each having means at one end for supporting an article to be displayed, a lever secured to the opposite end of each tube, means for selectively moving said levers from normal position, and for holding them in the neiv position for a time before releasing them, and means for insuring the return of said levers to normal position. v
9. A display device including a plurality of telescoped and relatively oscillable tubes each having means at one end for supporting an article to be displayed, a lever secured to the opposite end of each tube, and cams arranged to Contact each With its respective lever to oscillate it, and to maintain it in the new position for a time before releasing it. a
Signed at Seattle, King County, Washington, this 17th day of June 1921.
