GO'ITLIEB STEINER AN D JACQUES BOHLI, 0F SOLO'IEURN, SWITZERLAND, ASSIGNORS TO THE FIRM SCINTILLA, 0F SOLOTHURN, SWITZERLAND.
WIRE-GLAMPING TERMINAL FOR LOW-VOLTAGE INSTALLATIONS.
Application filed July 6, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GOTTLIEB STEINER, a
v(for which wehave filed applications in Switzerland June 24, 1920, and Germany, June 25, 1920), of which the following is a specification.
In low voltage installations for particular purposes, such as for instance for lighting otor cars and the like it is necessary to use electric lead connections that have to be undone very frequently. Such connections have as a rule a form of flexible lead ends which are fixed in position by means of screws that can be slacked back. Repeated fixing frequently results in damaging the core of the flexible leads which consists of a number of thin wires.
A terminal embodying the improvements of the present invention is constructed in such a manner as to exclude any damage to the lead end that is to be clamped. This is effected by providing a screw-threaded hole in the main body of the clamp which is bifurcated on its upper part, and introducing into this hole from above. a screw carrying' at its lower end a clamping aw that is swivelled on a pin.
This clamping jaw is movable up arid down in the slot of the clamp body and is adapted to press the end of the lead that is to be clamped, against the lower part of the clamp body.
Further, a cap is slipped from above over the clamp body, this cap leaving the head of the screw free and being bifurcated at its lower part and having its lower edge turned over the clamp body.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 11, 1922.
Serial no. teases.
Fig. l is a longitudinal section of the clamp;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation, and
Fig. 3 is a cross-section thereof taken on the line A A.
The body a of the clamp is bifurcated at its upper part into two portions a, and a, and is formed with a screw-threaded hole.
A screw 1) working in this screw-thread carries a pin f to which is swivelled a block 0. This block 0 engages by means of wings on both sides into the slots between the por tions a, and a, of the clamp body.
A cap 03 which is bifurcated at its lower part and is turned over at its lower edge, prevents separation of the elements of the clamp.
The flexible lead end 6 is inserted into the slot provided in the lower part of the cap d, and on the screw being tightened the said end e is clamped between the lower part of the clamp body a and the block 0 which is attached to the pin f of the screw and which is suitably formed on its lower face.
What we claim is A wire clamping terminal for low voltage installations including a clamp body bifurcated at its outer end, said outer end being also internally screw-threaded, a screw engaging in said screw-threaded outer end, a pin attachedto the inner end of said screw, a clamping jaw, slidable up and down in a slot between the bifurcated parts of said clamp body, and loosely attached in a swivellable manner to said pin and a cap whose outer end is perforated to permit access to the outer head of the screw, said cap being bifurcated at. its inner part and having its inner edge turned over the clamp body.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification.
