T0 @ZZ 107mm t may concern Be it known that I, EMILro Maenner. a subject of the King of Italy, and resident of Naples, Italy, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoes, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to improvements in shoes and more particularly to heels for the same7 and has for its object to produce a heel having a sheet metal upper portion provided with a flange adapted to extend around the rear part of the shoe to stiii'en the same.

A further object of the invention is to provide a heel with the portion which is subjected to wear, removable, so that when worn out a new portion may be readily substituted.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a heel with means for forcing the air into the interior of the shoe during the act of walking, so as to ventilate the foot of the wearer.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the views.

To the bottom of the body is securedthe inverted cup shaped member 3 by screws 4 which pass through the top of the member 3 and the bottom of the body 2 into the sole A. The sole A is provided with perforations 5 and 6 the latter serving to receive a bolt 2, the purpose of which will be hereinafter explained. The bottom of the body 2 and the top of the member 3 are provided with openings a in register with the openings 5 of the sole. A rubber ring 8 fits snugly in the member 3 `with its 'upper end in engagement with the top of the member 3 and its lower portion projecting below the lower edge of said member.

The portion of the heel subjected to wear is composed of the piece of leather l0, the metal plate 1l and the block 12 of any suitable material. The block 12 fits into the ring 8 and is of less thickness than the rubber ring so that an air space is formed between the top of the block and the top of the member 3. The bolt 7 is carried by the block l2 and extends through the top of the member 3 and the bottom body 2 into the opening 6 of the sole and is provided with a nut. By this means7 the wear portion of the heel can be readily attached and detached thereby permitting a new wear portion to be substituted when the old one is worn out.

By thus constructing the heel during the action of walking the rubber ring 8 is coinpressed and forces the air from the air space through the openings a and 5 into the shoe. The heel thus acts as a pump for keeping a circulation of air through the sole into the shoe. In order to prevent slipping I provide the wear port-ion of the heel with a plurality of rubber pads 13. As shown these rubber pads are held by holders l5 having a plurality of arms, and are secured to the said wear portion by U-shaped bolts 14 passing through the block l2 and screwing into the holders of the pads.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
