RUBBER HEEL.
ence being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
- The present invention relates to rubber or resilient heels, and more especially to detachable slip-on heels having marginal flanges or lips to fit on and embrace the heels; and it is an object of the invention to provide additional means for retaining the rubber heel firmly in place on the heel of the shoe or other article of foot wear.
Another object is to assemble an elastic \band with the rubber heel in such a way as to embrace the shoe heel and hold the rubber or cushion heel in lace effectively.
A further object is the provision of a rubber or cushion heel of the character indicated which is simple and inexpensive in construction, as wellas convenient and prac tical in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will be understood as the description proceeds, the invention resides-in the construction and arrangement of arts,
as hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes can be made within ,the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accom-- panying drawing, wherein igure 1 is a median vertical section of flieldetachable heel in position on the shoe iee Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 showing the detachable heel and arts thereof as when in position on the shoe eel, said shoe heel being removed.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing a modification.
Fig. 4: is a median vertical section'of another variation taken on the line 44 of Fi i fiig. 5 is a plan view of the third form'of detachable heel.
The detachable heel 7, which is composed of rubber or other cushioning materiahis rovidedwith a marginal elastic flange or" 1p 8 which tapers-upwardly, to be slipped on and to embrace the heel 9 of a shoe,.slip per or other article of foot wear, this type Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed May 27,

of detachable heel beingused especially on French heels of womens foot wear, to enable the heel 7 to be readily applied-and removed for different occasions. The heel 7 on the main heel. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, an elastic band 10 of suitable crosssection and of rubber is vulcanized, cemented or otherwise secured to'the rear portion of the flange 8 on theinner side thereof, and is inclined so as to embrace the heel 9 tightly with the forward portion of the bandlO disposed above the breast portion of the flange 8. The band 10 will therefore exert an upward and forward pull on the rear portion of the flange 8, to hold the heel 7 snugly up against the heel '9, and thereby resist the tendency for the heel 7 to become loosened or lost.
For purpose of ornamentation, the margin .of the heel 7 can be providedwith apertures or recesses 12.
In applying the detachable heel to the heel 9, the band 10 is easily stretched to pass over the heel 9, in slipping the flange 8 on the heel 9, and the band 10 when released will assume the position as shown in Fig. 1.
In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the detachable cushion heel 7' has the retaining flange or lip8 and the marginal apertures 12 as in the form hereinbefore described, and the elastic retaining band 10, instead of being vulcanized, cemented or similarly secured to the flange 8' is threaded through slots 11 provided in the rear rtion of the flange 8', thereby attaching t e lower rear portion of" the elastic band with the rear portion of said flange, so that the band can embrace the shoe heel and holdthe rear portion of the flange 8' snugly in I place.
' In the variation shown in igs'. 4 and 5, another manner of connecting the elastic band withz the retaining flange of the detachable heel 7" is shown. Thus, the rear portion of the band 10', which is disposed above the flange 8", is connected with the rear por- "so when applied prevents the heel from slip-' tion of the flange by an integral web 11, so that when the heel 7 is appliedto the shoe heel and the band 10" stretched over the shoe heel to embrace same, the heel 7 is held tightly in place. Figs. 4 and 5 also show the upper surface of the heel 7 as being provided with grooves 13" whereby to provide a friction surface toengage the tread of the heel of the shoe or other article of foot wear, to eliminate possible slipping be' tween the two heels and give cushioning action.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. -A detachable heel having a marginal retaining flange to embrace the heel of an article of foot wear, and an elastic band to embrace the second named heel having one portion connected to the corresponding portion of said flange and its opposite portion free to be disposed at the opposite portion of the second-named heel above saidfiange.
2. A detachable heel having a marginal retaining flange to embrace the heel of an article of foot wear, and an elastic band to embrace the second named heel connected at its rear portion to the rear portion of said flange, the forward portion of said band being free to be disposed at the breast of the heel above said flange.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature.
LOUIS KAPLAN.
