F. W. BOWLER.
COMBINATION COMB CASE.
APPLICATION mm OCT. 31, 1921.

I [/YVE/YTOA: flank M BOW/er UNETEQ STATES FRANK WM. BOWLER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
COMBINATION COMB CASE.
Application filed October 31, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK WM. BOWLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Comb Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to combination comb cases, and has for its object the production of a pocket comb case arranged in combination with a mirror and a suitable frame, and having a clasp for securing the case to the pocket in which it is to be carried.
Fig. l is a plan view of the rear of the case showing the mirror thereon; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the front of the comb case; Fig. 3 is an edge view of the upper end of the case in section along the line 33 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4: is a sectional view along the line 4& of Fig. 2; Fig. 5 is an end view; (Fig. 6 is a plan view of. a modification of the device; and Fig. 7 is a sectional view along the line 77 of Fig. 6.
In general the invention comprises a pocket comb case consisting of a rear sheet 10 and a pliable front sheet 11 with sufficient space between the sheets to receive an ordinary pocket comb. On the back of the rear sheet 10 is a mirror 12 with the reflecting surface facing outwardly. The edges of the two sheets and the mirror are enclosed in the flanges 13 and let of a framework 15 which surrounds the sheets, the entire framework thus having a U-shaped cross-section. The flanges let are formed by cutting out an opening 16 in the frame, leaving a flange adapted to extend entirely around the edge of the mirror. The flanges 13 are formed by bending inwardly the edges of the sheet of which the frame is formed, the corners at the points 1'7 having been suitably removed from the frame sheet. On the upper end a resilient clasp 18 projects from the flange 1 and is bent in suitable shape to hold the device in the pocket. Finally the mirror is prevented from sliding out at the upper end by means of flanges 19 fixed to the upper flange 14, one on each side of the clip 18.
The various portions of the device may be made of any suitable material, and finished in any suitable or desired way, the exact material or finish thereon being a part of my invention. The mirror, however, in its preferred form comprises a sheet of glass with the inner surface carrying a reflecting material.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 4, 1922. Serial No. 511,959.
A device of this kind provides means for combining, in a suitable framework, a mirror and a comb case having a single securing clasp or clip, and of such shape that the entire device with a comb in the case can be carried in the pocket without danger of the device falling out inadvertently. When the comb is removed from the case to be used, the device can be used as a mirror in an ordinary manner.
A modification of my device is illustrated in Figs. 6 and 7. In this case the flanges 14 are replaced by a right-angled shaped strip 20 extending around the edges of the mirror and the comb case, and having a clasp 21 connected to one end thereof. The flanges 13 are replaced by flanges 22 on a frame 23, which encloses the edges of the comb case and mirror, and a continuous loop 24 firmly holds in place the strip 20.
I claim as my invention:
1. An article of manufacture comprising a mirror, a sheet of material covering the back of said mirror, and a flexible sheet covering said first mentioned sheet, the edges of said mirror and sheet being fastened together by means of a U-shaped framework extending around the edges of said mirror and sheets, and a resilient securing clasp fixed to one end of said article and projecting outwardly and towards the central portion thereof.
2. An article of manufacture comprising a sheet forming a mirror and a flexible sheet, the edges of said sheets being connected by means of a framework comprised of a third sheet, the said third sheet having an opening therein of substantially the shape of the mirror, but materially smaller, and said third sheet being bent around the edges of said other sheets so as to form a U-shaped connecting framework around the edges of said first mentioned sheets, and a securing clasp fixed to one end of said framework.
3. An article of manufacture comprising a frameadapted to hold a flat article to be viewed, said frame consisting of a sheet of flexible material having a large opening therethrough, the portion of the sheet surrounding the opening being bent to form a continuous U-shaped frame adapted to hold the edges of the said article, and a clasp fixed to one end of said frame.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto set my hand.
FRANK WM. BOWLER.
