PATENT OFF-ICE.
Bonner W. Series, or snr FRANCISCO, catrro'mna, AssIeNoa T0 TAYLOR- WKAR'ION men 4m) srnm. COMPANY, or men amen, NEW JERSEY,
a CORPORATION orNEw JERSEY.
To all whom it may concern:
- Be it known that I,R0BERT W. Slims, a citizen of the United States, residin at San Francisco, in the-county of; San rancisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in SectionalLips for Dredge Buckets, of which the following is a. specification.
Dredge buckets of theendless, elevator type are usually rovided with a cutting lip of alloy steel, suc as manganese steel, which assumes the brunt of the digging, and must be replaced from time to time. 'The lip is .usually secured by a course of rivets,-and
when replacement is necessary, much time and labor is expended in'cutting the rivets in order to remove the worn lip and in riveting the new lip. y
he object of. myiinvention is to reduce this expense to a minimum by providinga j sectional lip whereof one element is or may be permanently secured to the bucket, and whereof the other element is in the form of a. tip, which maybe applied or removed with ease and facility.
The nature, characteristic .features and. sec of the invention will be more readily 'un erstoodfrom the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part thereof, where- F igure l. is a perspective view of. a cutting lip embodying my invention. I Fi 2. is a front elevational view showing the 11p elements in detached relation.
Fig. 3. is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. I. Fig. 4. is a section on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
In practicing the invention I provide a lip sncrlomnmr r012. cannon micxn rs.

assembly comprising a base 5 and a tip -or I wearing element 6.- The base 5 is or may be rivet. holes 7 being provided for that purpose The tip-receiving edge of the base is provlded with a tongue 8 which is well forti fied' by an inner swell 9.. The tongue stops short of the ends of the base, which have permanently secured to the dredge bucket, I
undercut portions or lugs 10. Rivet holes 11 are provided, one at eaclr side of the cen commodated in slots or pockets 15 in the base, and the interlocking of the elements is completed by two rivets 16.
' Having described my invention, I claini,'-,
'1. A lip assembly for dredge buckets, comgroove connection, the base having terminal lugs which straddle the endsof the tip.
2. A lip a wembly for dredge buckets, comab'ase a d a renewab tip, the latter having depending ears which are afforded'a flush-"fit in-the. base, the ears and base having registering rivet holes;
3. In combination, a dredge bucket, and a two-piecelip, comprising amembe'r secured to the bucket and a removable tip or testimony whereof I aflix my si ature.'-
